A wonderful two-fer! Love it! Don’t love riding on Sleepy Hollow though! You’re braver than I am!

This is the section of Sleepy Hollow between Old Columbia Pike and Columbia Pike. It doesn’t actually connect to Columbia Pike, so it is nice and calm.

I took the photo yesterday, Sunday, January 16th, in the afternoon just as the snow was starting, but I didn’t post it until hours later. I did, however, just go back today and update the post with yesterday’s date on it, so it would be less confusing, and i will now make sure I add the date each time I post a photo if that makes it easier for you. It is also posted for that day in the Strava too.

Thanks – lesson learned on my part. Now I know why the ScavHunt rules say “put the date on it”. The search function on the forum is (ahem) terrible too. Hopefully next year there will be some upgrades (I hear that’s a possibility). Pedal on!

    1/18/2022 – LFL

Corner of S. Barton Street, and 9th St. S., in Arlington, VA

This Little Free Library is in a great spot, just behind a shopping center, on a street that gets a lot of foot traffic (from people going to the shopping center). I remember when it was erected, and watched it slowly grow with more and more books. Now it is chock-full of books, without room for much more. I think that if the people who put it up knew how popular it would be (and what a great spot it was) they might have built a bigger one. But it did have a pretty good selection of adult and kid books, but didn’t have a lot of BIG books, because there just isn’t any room to put them.

Outlook Lane (it is actually an alley)
    Alexandria, Virginia

This LFL has posted a sign that the bottom shelf is a diversity library for children. The owner requests that books from the diversity library be returned for other children to use.

It’s been a while since I’ve been able to find one, but I got lucky today. This was in front of the Fountain Hills bike shop. No biking books, though.

4105 Legation Street NW, Washington DC 20015. The proprietor says:

We had admired a neighbors little free Library in our old neighborhood, and when we moved and downsized into a smaller space we asked out friend Ronnie Wills to build us one so we could share the books we no longer had room for. It has been fun to see which books find an audience quickly, which ones linger in the library, and the titles that other neighbors refill the library with. I’m going to start leaving notes in the books we contribute — and I hope others will too. Jamal

But I didn’t find a single book with a note in it, so contributing some of those would be good. Also, there was one children’s book in French, so apparently there is a child who speaks French in the neighborhood. It would be good to contribute more children’s books in French so that child will have things to read.

This is the cutest and most interesting LFL I’ve come across yet! (A few more photos in my Strava post.) In addition to a varied assortment of books (including a travel guide to Spain), they also lend or exchange seeds, plants, and will take a donation to their compost bin of egg shells, coffee grounds, fruit & veg scraps/peels/skins, and chemical-free shreds of wood & paper! I donated “Being Peace” by Thich Nhat Hanh.

Wow – I’m putting that on my “must visit” list when I get back! That sounds like a great donation for that library!

I can just imagine in the wee hours of the night someone seeing you flipping through the pages of every book. They probably thought you were “just another spy in DC” … amazing what we learn to ignore in our area! :-)
