ParticipantMVT is untreated but I had no problems on my hybrid with treads only. It’s all powder.
Construction crew continues to beg for an accident though…

ParticipantI would change the thread title if I could. But I am powerless to do so…
I read that some commuters were stuck on the roads for more than six hours last night.
Everyone knows about the snow arriving tomorrow. But be aware that winds of up to 30-50 mph are also expected during the storm!

ParticipantAnybody want to be a guinea pig? Seems like a good weekend for trial by fire.
The #bikedc crowd-sourced regional trails and road conditions map
It’s a very rough beta, but functional. Feedback welcomed over in this thread.
DETAILS:
To report conditions you’ll need to be logged-in – hit the “register” button to create an account, or you can login using existing Google Credentials on the “login” page under “sign in using other services”.
Once you’re logged-in, just click wherever you want to report conditions for. Pick a “status” and fill in any additional details that you’d like to share then click “submit”.Condition Reports show up as a color-coded dot –
GREEN = CLEAR (No problems)
YELLOW = USE CAUTION (Some slippery spots or light debris, but not a big deal)
ORANGE = DIFFICULT (Heavy snow, ice, blockages that may require briefly dismounting.)
RED = IMPASSABLE (Severe flooding, official trail closures, etc.)Click the colored dot for details of who reported it, when it was reported and any details the user included.
Reports disappear after 12 hours so as to avoid providing information that is too stale.

ParticipantNiiiice. Want to put it out over social media, or just keep it to the forum?

Thanks for asking – just the forum for now. If it survives 24 hours of forum use without uncovering any show-stopping bugs, we can push it to a wider audience tomorrow.

ParticipantOkay.
What does the yellow dot signify? And why is it at Glebe & Glebe? Geographic center the Greater DC region?

ParticipantOn my way to work (thanks for the super late start Arlington County, it was nice to commute to work in the sunshine!), I passed by the snow brusher on the Custis at the s-curve of death.
Even though the trails were completely passable (granted, I was on a mountain bike with 2.4″ tires, but it would have been passable on 25 slicks), it was nice to see that Arlington was still clearing the trails. I waved and thanked the driver for being out there.

ParticipantIn case anyone is flying in/out of National Airport in the near future, MWAA has a new snow-melting machine capable of melting 135 tons of snow an hour. It won’t help with the MVT but it should help the airport to reopen a little sooner. (I’d expect the airports to close at some point on Fri. and probably all day on Sat. I don’t know about Sun.)

ParticipantThe Weather Channel is trying to name the storm “Winter Storm Jonas.” Their naming scheme is unofficial, so I doubt any non-Weather Channel outlets will use that term.

According to my Facebook feed, anyone with a kid named Jonas is using the name.

Perfect for using thousands of gallons of fuel to melt salt and pollutant-laden snow to be dumped directly into the river!

Mmmm… the speed of progress. Can’t stop, won’t stop. If animals are so great, then why can’t they keep up with us, huh? :p
