Zorba’s Grill, on Union Street in Occoquan, is a family-owned restaurant serving Greek, Italian and American favorites. The owner, John Dritkos emigrated from the Greek island of Karpathos when he was just 21, joining his father and brother, who were already here. They have a nice seating area with umbrellas on a patio between some buildings.

My husband and I have had several memorable meals at Zeffirelli’s, celebrating special occasions. Since opening in 1991, Zeffirelli Ristorante Italiano has been established as a fine tradition in historic Herndon — 728 Pine St, Herndon, VA 20170. The 100-year-old building adds character and ambiance to Zeffirelli’s dining experience. The formal service, candlelit tables, exquisite Tuscan cuisine, and fine wines set an incomparable atmosphere for patrons. Try the famous veal chop – 16 ounces of fine thick cut chops, marinated in tasty spices and pan-seared to perfection. Seafood is a specialty and many customers return for the Linguini Cleopatra – a magnificent combination of lobster, shrimp and sea scallops prepared in a light champagne-cream sauce and served atop fresh homemade pasta.

    Casa Rosada Artisan Gelato
111 South Payne Street, Alexandria VA
    b3b3ef97600d56aae3889d98953ba7d8.jpg

Family owned and operated, Casa Rosada brings a taste of world-class Argentine gelato and sorbet to Alexandria, VA.

Founder and owner Benjamin Umansky, a chemical engineer by trade, takes the science of gelato making to an entirely new level. With over 30 years of industry experience, he began making gelato as a hobby in 2004 with his wife Raquel. After nearly a decade of studying, practicing, and (finally) full retirement from engineering, they opened up their first storefront in Alexandria, VA with the help of their sons David and Mark.

Taste of Istanbul (1862 Explorer St, Reston, VA) is owned and run by Ercan Karaman and his family. They began serving Turkish fare at a Reston farm market in 2017 before opening the restaurant. Karaman’s culinary career began when he was 15 doing prep work in kitchens in Turkey. Specialties of Taste of Istanbul include kebabs as well as filet mignon and lamb, and the menu is fully halal.

La Tolteca in Fairfax Station, VA. My favorite entree is Conchinita Pibil and my husband likes the Toltecos Parrillada. We would usually get two meals out of each entree. They also make great margaritas. With covid we would order food and margaritas to-go. Yummy.

Peking Village II is located on Fairfax Boulevard. This family-owned restaurant has been here for many years. It is our favorite Chinese restaurant. We always see the same man and woman when we are in there to pick up food. I love looking at the order form with the Chinese writing. It always amazes me that they can take what we order and put in down in just a few characters.

99 Ranch Market on Fairfax Blvd in Fairax, also known as Tawa Supermarket, was established in 1984 by Mr. Roger Chen. As a Taiwanese immigrant, he noticed a cultural gap in the typical American supermarket where he saw a need for an Asian supermarket in surrounding communities. He filled that gap and thus, the very first 99 Ranch Market was born. Mr Chen states that “With the support of our loyal customers, hardworking employees, and supportive vendors, we have grown to become one of the largest Asian supermarket chains with 54 stores across 10 states.”

This storefront is home of my favorite Brazilian chocolatier: Chocolicious by Silvia Oriani. There are actually many vendors in here but her chocolates can be seen in the window above my bike in the hearts box next to the panda. https://www.chocolicioususa.com/history
