This place gets rave reviews on Yelp which means it must be pretty good since it’s really hidden away at the back of a condo building on Sunrise Valley Rd near the intersection with Reston Pkwy.February 4, 2022 at 7:48 pm #1118598Boomer Cycles
ParticipantDelhi Dhaba was established in 1991 by a local Arlingtonian family that emigrated from New Delhi, India to the United States in the 70’s. Their vision was to bring the colors, flavors, and riches of a traditional Indian Dhaba to the locals in the metropolitan area.
Traditionally, a Dhaba is a roadside restaurant or cafe found on highways and on the outskirts of cities, towns, and villages. Dhabas were initially started by enterprising Punjabi’s to cater to the needs of truckers, for wholesome, clean, and hot authentic Punjabi food at any hour of the day or night.
Over the years Delhi Dhaba has become one the most well known and respected Indian restaurants in Arlington. The family continues to push the envelope of new ideas everyday while staying true to their culture and values
I also love their lotus flower logo which might be #publicartfinder worthy!

Participant“The Halal Guys”: Mohamed Abouelenein, Ahmed Elsaka, and Abdelbaset Elsayed. These Egyptian immigrants traveled to the United States in hopes of a better life and set their sights on becoming a true American entrepreneurial success story. They are the founding members of our growing franchise. Together they launched NYC’s first Halal food cart in 1990. This has led to The Halal Guys being the #1 Most Yelped eatery in NYC and #3 in the entire United States. Today, their corporate team continues the legacy and builds upon our brand’s success and popularity daily by growing the American Halal Food concept worldwide via a fast casual restaurant format. This particular Halal Guys is located in University Mall in Fairfax.

ParticipantBaku Delicious on my version of a Immigrant Heritage Ride
I was pleased to see Roshen chocolates, but didn’t see any of the Ukrainian beer I used to buy when we lived in Kyiv.
Enjoyed a potato and a beef koke with my Americano for lunch.

ParticipantUniversity Tailor and Clock/Watch Repair is a small shop in University Mall that is owned by an Asian family. This little shop has been here as long as I can remember. We have used them for both clothing alterations and watch repair. They do great work. It’s a challenge talking to them, especially the gentleman doing watches, but we manage to communicate. I remember bringing in a couple of watches for battery replacement and when I picked them up, he demonstrated that one of the watches just needed to be wound up. Who uses wind-up-watches anymore?? Apparently, me when I pulled out my grandmother’s watch.🤪

The Kitchen is a restaurant in a small strip mall on Soapstone Drive in Reston. They’ve always been solely carryout, no tables for eating in. The menu is surprisingly extensive and and the items are listed in English and Chinese (e.g., “Vegetarian Ma Po Tofu 麻婆豆腐饭”).February 6, 2022 at 2:51 am #1118716Serdar

ParticipantEerkins Uyghur Cuisine in Fairfax City. We stopped at this restaurant on the Fairfax City Immigrants Heritage ride today. Their website states that the Uyghur’s are the descendants of the Turkic-speaking migrants from Mongolia who founded the Uyghur Empire. (744-840 C.E.) located near the present-day Xinjiang region in China. It also states the Eerkin’s ethnic chefs, with ancestors from Uyghur’s who are well-informed about the ancient recipes, allows us to offer the centuries old Uyghur foods. The usage of fresh vegetables, meat, beef, chicken and fish makes our Uyghur cuisine the tastiest and mouth wateringly delicious food.

This is the Azerbaijani Pomegranate wine I bought at Baku Delicious. After both Serdar and a customer recommended it, I had to have a bottle. -
