Soma has a 20% off sale through the 23rd. Now wouldn’t be a bad time to be needing a Wolverine frame.

Ok, this is for people who read here often, this is a quick one. Road Runner Bags is having a 4/20 sale where they have 42% off everything on site.

The sale is only today and only for 1 hour! From 4:20 – 5:20 PST!!! That’s 7:20 to 8:20 EST.

https://roadrunnerbags.us/ You must use the promo code “LIT420”

I have the burrito supreme handlebar bag and I love it. The make bike bags, backpacks, and a couple of frame bags. Lots of color choices too. They have this really nice new handlebar/saddle bag called the jammer which looks really nice. The promo price is truly a steal for some of these bags.

What, are all the bags made mostly of hemp-based fabric?

Chain Reaction Cycles has a great deal on Schwalbe Pro One Tubeless tires all three sizes (23, 25, and 28). I have 28s on my new bike and find them to be awesome.

Yeah, I think these in 28mm are pretty much the best tires I have ridden. I just put them back on my new commuter. The rear has a puncture apparently. I should probably address it; I pump them up to 70psi and then somewhere mid ride it starts spraying sealant then seals up at around ~40psi. I probably need to use a plug or just add more sealant or something. But 40psi actually feels fine, so I’m just riding it (carefully) until I can deal with it.

Looks like some other Schwalbe models are on sale too. Pondering whether to replace the stock Clement Xplor tires on my Renegade with Schwalbes or just put in a tire liner, since I suspect there’s no puncture protection on the stock tires.

My other bike will probably be up for tire replacement in a few months too – not quite bald yet, but getting there. Thinking of going Schwalbe for that one too. The stock tires are 26 x 1.75 – can I put 26 x 2.00 without replacing the rims?

Note that you can typically find Schwalbe Pro One tires overseas in the $40-45 range, so this isn’t a huge sale. Or from Germany for even less than these sale prices: https://www.bike24.de/1.php?content=8;product=143166;menu=1000,4,22,35 — but bike24 charges ~$20 for shipping so you have to order enough to make that worth it. (I think it’s $20 for even up to 6 tires — or more — I haven’t found the number where the $20 increases.)

Edit: I haven’t ridden Celement Xplor tires, but the Schwalbe G-One Allround are phenomenal tires. (Not sure what you mean by tire liner? There is puncture protection on the G-One sure. Plus, tubeless …) . Yes, you can put a 2.0 tire on the 26″ wheel without needing a new rim.

I have the Clement Xplor MSO tires on my gravel bike. They are fantastic, but I have the G-One Allrounds on my list as replacements, just because they seem to be slightly more pavement oriented, which is the road surface that my tires see the most.

I’ve enjoyed commuting on the Xplor and I’m sure they contributed to the plush ride I had on the C&O Gap Trail. I’m leaning towards the Schwalbe Marathon line for more puncture-resistant replacement – possibly the Marathon Tour, Mondial, or GT 365.

I’ve been told in “how to fix your flat” classes that installing a tire liner can improve puncture resistance without getting a whole new tire. One of these, for example:

My closest LBS sells Mr. Tuffy tire liners but the reviews here weren’t exactly stellar.

My Renegade came with 30tpi wire bead Clement Xplor MSO 36c tires. I was curious about tubeless so I switched to Schwalbe G-One Allround 38c (actual measurement about 41mm on my 23mm internal rims) and I love them. Surprisingly awesome on the road at 40-45psi and they give me a a lot of cornering confidence. They also give me a lot of confidence when it comes to obstacles and debris. It goes without saying they’re awesome on gravel and even some mud. I ran them off-road at about 35psi, about 5psi lower than recommended without issue and they’re very comfortable. Obviously it’s not a fair, like-for-like comparison. I’ve heard good things about running the Xplor MSO tubeless as well. I just wanted to experiment with something a little different.

Yeah, that is the huge advantage to G-Ones, I think . They are the fastest tires I have used on pavement that also work really well off-road. Surprisingly well given how low-profile they are.

Do you get a lot of punctures? I haven’t flatted my G-One tires (tubeless). If you ride over a lot of glass etc. on a regular basis then the tubeless probably won’t be enough to keep you from having to do any trail-side maintenance.

Yes, I was amazed how well these did on pavement. They certainly feel faster, for example, than Specialized Trigger 38mm (tubeless) tires. These tires also feel like they perform a lot better / more consistently when you drop the PSI (many tires feel fast on-road at 50psi but then feel like a slog at 35psi). And they handle great off-road. I rode these at Monstercross and even though it was pretty loose they seemed to handle comparably to MTB tires — and were a lot faster (which meant easier for me) on the road sections. I’ve run these down into the 20s psi which works fine, but wasn’t great for my rims. :-( (It wasn’t intentional; I must have burped a little air or something?)

Anyway, it’s probably obvious I have no hesitation in recommending G-One if anyone asks me for an opinion on gravel tires.

I do ride on quite a bit of debris. I encounter glass shards on the Eisenhower-Huntington pedestrian bridge just about every other day. I’ve been lucky to have avoided a flat for this much time on the Xplors.

I haven’t gone tubeless yet. The G-One Allround is an intriguing option. I heard that the Marathons can be hard to lift out of a rim, even with good tire levers. Do all Schwalbe tires come with reflective lines?

I think Schwalbe calls their reflective sidewall tires “reflex.” The G-One Allround don’t have the reflective strip. I think most, if not all the Marathons do.

I figured out why my Schwalbe Pro One kept springing leaks (then sealing at 40psi) while riding. Apparently I didn’t look very closely at this used tire before I threw it back on.f15c5b813a124f0e22984ad0dfcfecd5.jpg
