Lynskey is having a sale on a frame I lust over, the Urbano or Urbanasky. Basically their Cooper CX with a marketing bent to be a road bike, gravel grinder, commuter. It has “road” bike cable routing. On sale at $1195. Please buy the remaining medium and medium-long sizes so I cannot

Ugh, even more tempting, Lynskey is running a bunch of no reserve auctions on eBay, two for Urbano frames that would fit me. Both end in about one hour and are only up to about $550. So would like to get one to replace my slightly too long top tubed (56.5) too narrow tire clearance Salsa but even for $700, I have more important priorities.

ParticipantPerformance has their Elite shorts (2015 edition) on sale for $48: http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1124054_-1___400065
They’re great shorts, especially good value at that price. Add a brake/shifter cable or something to get the free shipping?
FWIW, these run “American” size, so a size-medium fits like a size-L in Castelli / Sugoi / DeMarchi.

ParticipantPlanning for the next Freezing Saddles, I came across these “weatherized” Vans high tops – for platform pedalers only of course:

ParticipantI picked up a pair of these last night at the Woodbridge Kohl’s. Now I’ll all set for warm-weather cycling with/without rain – they look like running shoes but have drain holes to let water out.
Website says $54.99 but by applying for a Kohl’s credit card the price got knocked down to $40. I believe the womens’ version is also on sale.
Wore them on today’s ride to stop by the VĂ©lo City Coop’s garage sale, then fetch groceries. Pedaling with them feels great, at least on the MKS Grip King platform pedals which are a bit longer than the usual. Will ride with them on the Renegade next week – that too has platform pedals (Shimano Saints).

ParticipantSpecialized is running a sale on tires, buy one get one free. They’re selling them on their website, and the local shops, at least Spokes Etc. is running the sale too. I was at 5000 miles on my gator hardshells, and I broke a spoke last Thursday, Since I needed tires anyway, I bought them when I had my spoke replaced and wheels trued.
Only certain tires are eligible, and you can order them from specialized.com too with this promo.
The following tires are BOGO
S-works turbo
Turbo pro
Roubaix pro
Roubaix Armadillo elite
All condition armadillo elite
All condition armadillo
Espoir eliteI bought a pair of the heaviest tires they have, armadillo elite. I’ll find out tomorrow if they are as decent as my gator hardshells. I was planning on buying Continentals GP4000 IIs or all seasons, but I couldn’t pass up the 2 for 1. All seasons at Spokes were 79.00 a tire!

ParticipantI was disappointed that they didn’t have any of their tubeless/2Bliss variants on sale. I do like Specialized mtb and cx tires, and am curious to try some of their faster road options, but probably won’t buy non-tubeless tires anymore.
I do have an Armadillo Elite All-Season that I use as a backup. It is very durable, not very nice to ride, but imagine it will be similar to Gatorskins Hardshell.

ParticipantI’ve been waiting for this sale for six weeks. I finally bought different tires last week. Lame.

ParticipantSpeaking of tires, the EUR->USD exchange rate is pretty awesome these days. If you’re looking for Schwalbe tires, http://www.bike24.de/ is a good source. I just ordered 3 Pro One tubeless tires shipped for $150. I might get invoiced by customs (last time an overseas vendor used DHL, I did, not sure if that is related to the carrier or not), but even still that is a lot better than $80/tire domestically. If you don’t need the “Pro”, you can get 3 Schwalbe One tubeless tires for around $120. Shipping seems to be 20EUR even if you order 6 tires (I didn’t try a larger number), so if you’re willing to commit to a single tire model for however long that would be, you could obviously save even more.

ParticipantMerlincycles.com has those tires at $48.30 per and they pay the shipping over $100. I ordered wheels from them last year and they showed up on my doorstep 3 days later, which is pretty amazing.

ParticipantThat is amazing. So I guess price is better from Merlin for < 3, similar for 3, then some advantage to bike24 when > 3.
I wish I had more things I needed to buy from UK or Euro zone!

ParticipantChecked out the Spokes Etc tent sale. One of the guys there asked if he could help me. I said, “Thanks, just browsing”. He then suggested I test ride this bike – I was dressed in jeans, t-shirt and Crocs sandals – didn’t think I looked like someone shopping for a crit racing bike  :

Anyway, it was going for $1500 at the sale – $2000 on the Spokes website. Fun sprinter’s bike.
