I will look at investing in an e-bike once kids show up in our lives. I’ll need some help hauling them to daycare, but that’s not happening soon.
Given the pace of change in the e-bike and kid-hauling bike market, I think waiting to purchase until you need it is the right call.

ParticipantThis Castelli jacket is 50% off. Worth a gamble or not?

Just beware Castelli sizing. Usually runs a size small. Good stuff though.

What do people mean when they say this? If you wear a medium normally, get a small or get a large?

Castelli stuff generally fits smaller than their sizing charts indicate, and smaller than most non-Euro brands, so order a size larger than you would in those brands. So if you wear a medium in say, Pearl Izumi (or Sugoi, LG, Performance, etc…), get at least a large in Castelli.

Yeah, Castelli is just euro sizing. I think the sizing guide on the link above is accurate. E.g. my chest measures 40″; Castelli large is indicated as fitting 39.4″ and fits me snugly (as desired for a cycling jersey). So I wouldn’t recommend ignoring their sizing guide unless you want stuff to fit baggy.
Edit: maybe worth adding that Castelli stuff is not very long-in-the-arm (at least for the couple data points I have). So Large fits me great, but I wouldn’t order a Castelli jacket because the arms would be too short. Hence, I order Endura jackets. The Endura FS260 Pro Airstream is a similar jersey/jacket to the one above and around the same price (or cheaper) if you happen to also be disproportionately lanky in the arms. I *love* my Airstream “jacket”; it is comfortable down into the low 30s with wool baselayer due to windproof front.

ParticipantWord of warning, while I limited experience with Castelli (one bib knicker large and one extra large, the XL fits better), I bought an XL Protezione Rain Jacket using the size up instruction and the conventional wisdom was way wrong. The arms were VERY long (I wear a 33 inch dress shirt sleeve length my arms aren’t that long). May be a brand that it’s better to try on rather than rely on website sizing charts.

Spokes Etc. has a sale on Endura jackets, so I was thinking along those lines too.
When the owner at Proteus Bikes fitted me for my newly purchased road bike, she remarked that my arms were long. Nice thing too about Spokes is it’s near my house and I can try what they have in person.
Thanks!

I guess I should rephrase…their sizing charts are generally accurate, but their stuff tends to fit much more snugly than many might prefer/expect, particularly if they’re used to US-fit stuff.

Yes, good point. I definitely used to prefer jerseys fit loose; I would have been disappointed with Castelli’s tighter fit a few years ago. I guess I also used to have hair on my legs, and not be hungry all the time during race season. … Man, I’ve really gone off the deep end.

ParticipantI have their arm and leg warmers which are sized by the lbs .. which was kinda odd. So I got mediums.. but for their tops I’d be a small according to their size chart… cause i got the big fat legs I guess?
So if it says 36″ chest it really is a 36″ chest.. right?

ParticipantSpokes is running a discount on their bike fitting services -$100 for a road or mountain bike -only slightly more than a 17-mile WABA biking event, and neither gives you lunch 😎 (kidding). I’m not affiliated with Spokes and never had a full-fledged bike fit before, but I know lot of people, including posters in these forums, have said they can be extremely worthwhile.
