(Doesn’t matter, cos I’m not getting one.

Did I mention
?
I’d be more likely to cry for you if not for the Wolverine build rockford10 let you buy.

I have only two bikes. Surely I deserve another as a reward for my restraint.

Wait, the Wolverine replaced the old project fixie? Well then, yes, you do.

ParticipantIs it rational that I really want a fat bike fixie?

Heh! My 13 year old son is riding the old Schwinn project fixie! It makes me proud, but it’s really not my bike anymore. So yes, I have two bikes total. It’s really sad, when you think about it…nothing a fat bike wouldn’t cure, though.

What does rationality have to do with it?

ParticipantI think a TT bike would be more practical. Or do you guys drive the fatbikes out to WV just to ride in appropriately wintery conditions?

ParticipantMost of our off road trails are very sandy (around Kyiv) and I have had issues with my old mtb that can only take a max of 2 inch wide knobbies. besides, they don’t do a good job of clearing snow ($165 45nrth Dillingers as an add-on?). What would I do with a TT bike, I’m too slow for any but the old phart senior games and cutting .5 MPH ain’t gonna get me on the podium anymore.

ParticipantOh, I wasn’t suggesting a fat bike wouldn’t make sense in Kyiv. My dad has one in the arid/desert south of Madagascar and it is perfect there too. Seems silly in the mid Atlantic, except for maybe 3 days out of the year?

Have you been talking to Rockford? This sounds just like her.

ParticipantFat Bike and Time Trial bike are both impractical for me.
If I had extra money and space to burn though, I’d go fat bike all the way. No interest in triathlons or time trial racing, whereas I could see myself finding ways to have fun with a fat bike.

so what you’re saying is; we all we need one?

Yes, and SUVs — and ride-on mowers.

Well, isn’t the fat tire bike the Hummer of the bike world? And I’m sure we can figure out way to add a mower attachment (lower priority than the snowplow for the ELF).

I rode a carbon Salsa Beargrease at the Wakefield demo day a few weeks ago. They’re a stupid amount of fun on single track and this bike climbed surprisingly well (no issues getting up to the top of the berms). If the Jamis Renegade I ordered (for a commuter) doesn’t come in soon, I’ll probably cancel that order and get the Beargrease. If the Jamis does finally arrive, I’ll probably get the Beargrease anyway.
It’s a stupid, stupid bike. But I laughed the entire time I rode it.
