That didn’t always work for me last winter. On the worst occasion I could barely pedal at all on one side, since there wasn’t much pedal surface, and no flat area on the bottom of the shoe. Maybe it’s just me.
Yes, this is a problem I had, too. Keo cleats. Wet snow would pack in and I couldn’t clip in, so I’d have to find something to scrape the snow out of the cleat.

ParticipantSPD for me. Like @vern, it was the wet snow that packed in. Pro tip: don’t spray water from your water bottle on it to try and clear it out, especially when it’s about nine degrees out. :p

I also have some Endura shoe covers and they are quite excellent at keeping out water. On Tuesday my left shoe stayed dry but the right leaked in some water from the bottom. I had taped the soles on the inside of each to stop water leaching in from underneath, but I guess I need to re-tape the right shoe.
I have had the opposite experience. I think they suck. I almost ruined a pair of dress shoes, thinking they would keep them dry the first time I wore them–believing what I read on their web site.
The problem is that the material the bottom is made of soaks right through. And, for me, in order to stretch them on, the bottoms come up the sides slightly, soaking the lower side of the shoe.
The neoprene works great, and I will continue to use these to keep my feet warm on dry days, but I need to find something else for rainy days (I wore my sandals, sans socks, last week, but that was about as cold as I can tolerate). Perhaps your tape job is what I need to do. What kind of tape do you use? I have a hard time believing the tape won’t come off almost every time it rains, though.December 6, 2015 at 10:57 pm #1042386hozn
ParticipantYeah, I don’t know how well the bottom keeps out water. I have never had dry feet when using covers in rain, but the wetness level with these covers as more “damp” then “fully soaked” like the Gore covers. The neoprene that covers the uppers was dry I side when I took them off, so they definitely don’t wet through from the uppers.

It holds up pretty well. I use a couple layers, and leave it there until it warms up in the Spring. I don’t notice any seams from the tape when riding because the insole insert is between my foot and the tape.
But yes, the bottom of the Endura does absorb moisture, and of course moisture can come in around the edges of the cover around the cleat and work its way through the mesh on my shoes. that’s probably what happened to me the other day, now that I think about it, because the tape is fine.

ParticipantAlmost ruined your dress shoes? Yikes. If you want waterproof shoe covers, buy some latex nuke boots, they run about $8 a pair if bought individually. I’ve been using the same pair over my normal shoes on rainy days for a few years now. They’re even uglier than the quintessential yellow rain jackets everyone seems to use on rainy days, but also more effective.

Cheap bib tights from Nashbar. Factory seconds due to a logo discoloration for $26.79. I have pair of these from last year and they’re not bad. They kept me warm into the upper 30s low 40s. The chamois is a little thin, but they’re definitely serviceable.
These arrived today and seem pretty good for the price. will definitely be in the rotation this winter, at least cutting down on my laundry.

I’ve already told…err, warned…my wife about this. I assume my size in a Moonlander will not be available, but I gotsta try. If I’m able to pick one up, it will guarantee a snowless Freezing Saddles.

ParticipantYou all are enablers! Pugsley Ops ordered this evening. Curse you (buying my own Christmas present).
Rockford is so mean. Tell her she can ride it too.

Do fat bikes have enough “float” for me to ride through the river of my own tears?
(Doesn’t matter, cos I’m not getting one.
)
Did I mention
?
