Gore bike wear overshoes – Size 13.5-15 selling for $22.53 at Amazon Warehouse. Usually around $80. Too bad they’re not my size.

Loving my new Catlike helmet but the little “sweat absorber” usually gets saturated during my commute when it’s 70F (a diminishing problem this time of year of course), and suddenly spills sweat over my sunglasses in the last 15 min. or so of my 1 hr. ride. Riding in last Tuesday’s rain also made me want a visor. The Catlike came with a little snap-on visor, but I had to take it off to install the helmet mirror.

I see a couple of moisture-wicking cycling caps on sale at REI. Hoping one of them will solve both these issues.

Nice. Another good though ugly option for flat pedals is latex “nuke boot” shoe covers, which cost about $8, are high viz, and actually hold up pretty well, much better than you might think given that they are advertised as disposable.

I don’t see the cycling cap w/visor that I’m looking for here, but quite a few deals, including Ridley bikes.

15 bikes from DC up in a lot. Looks like mostly junk, but a little salvageable in it.

Amazon has some decent pricing on the Velo Transit Freemont 30 pack…these are usually $180-200, some colors currently going for under $50. I have a 40 liter pack of theirs and it has held up well over the last year. Definitely waterproof on the inside…outside pocket not so much.

I clicked on this to find out more info (always looking for a new pack) and Amazon remembered that I was looking at windproof vests and showed me a Gore windstopper vest for super cheap (I got the last one in my size). Cheers!

Thanks for the tip! Got a large one for only $48 total. Looks well made and spot on for my winter riding needs.

How good are these? Are they $180-200 good or $50 good (with a $180 “real” price tag as an enticement)?

I am a sucker for bags and packs but I really don’t need anything right now. However if this were an amazing $200 pack for $50 I might be persuaded to get one. You know, for a friend!

Lots of good cold weather gear for cheap at Costco right now–100% merino wool shirts for men and women for $17, plus I believe I saw merino wool base layer pants there as well for men (supposedly they carry them for women too but I didn’t see any). Lots of other layering shirts and pants as well. Balaclavas for around $10, and a poster in Women and Bicycles said the microfiber 32*degree shirts are going on sale Oct 29. Also tons of gloves, hats and scarves.

Bonus points–Costco takes almost anything back. So save your receipts and tags and if you realize after a few uses the item doesn’t work out well, you can return it.

    Really?
I bought a cheap Paradox blend shirt there once. Online has them for $17 but the breakdown is this:

    • 84% Polyester
    • 11% Merino Wool
    • 5% Spandex

100% would be worth a trip, though.

Definitely 100% merino wool. I checked the tags before buying one. The women’s one is a thin v-neck, but good for layering. I saw them at the Costco on Route 1 in Alexandria (although further than the Pentagon City Costco, it’s much larger and parking is easy), but I heard the other locations sell them too.

It’s probably a $150 pack…at least in my mind. No loose threads, definitely waterproof inside, and feels good on my back in all weather. Made in Seattle, they claim a lifetime warranty (though no problems on mine to date…even after a couple crashes).

Gore Women’s Countdown Gore-Tex Jacket in Nashbar’s clearance bin plus an extra 20% off. Scored it for $44.

Only XS and XXL in stock though.
