Stages is having blowout sale on power meters. Just picked up the SRAM Rival version for $399.
This will be for the Omniums on my Cinelli, but it looks like I could easily throw it on my mountain bike if I pick up a SRAM X5 crank (which are cheap), which should easily swap with the Shimano crank currently on it. Even with the cost of the new crank, that’s still a great deal.
That is a great deal. Beware that Q factor is not the same w/ road and mtb (and track) cranksets. So even though it’ll bolt up fine, you can’t just put a road left crank on a mtb crankset — at least without it feeling weird (though it seems likely it wouldn’t clear the chainstay). Looks like the Rival will also be ~6mm further outboard than your omnium left crankarm. See https://www.sram.com/sites/default/files/techdocs/road_cranksets_fram_fit_specs_gen_0000000004165_rev_b.pdf (there’s probably another document if you want to compare from road to mtb)
Edit: here’s the MTB fit spec: https://www.sram.com/sites/default/files/techdocs/gen._0000000004661_rev._a_mtb_drivetrain_ffs.pdf (Looks like the X5 left crankarm is 11mm further outboard than the Rival.)

Yeah, 6mm I can live with, especially since I feel like my left foot needs to come out slightly anyway. And I’m not buying it with the justification that I can use it on my mountain bike…I would just like to try it if could be made to work, which the main issue seems to be the Q factor and potential clearance issues.

Yeah, I only know this is an issue because I briefly considered grabbing a [used] Stages X9 crankarm thinking I could just put it on my road crankset. In that case there wouldn’t have been a clearance issue, but that’d be pretty imbalanced.
If you notice the imbalance (and I’m guessing you might feel it, at least at first), you could always get a pedal extender for the right side — or just get a Sram Rival crankset [and put a single track ring on it].

ParticipantYeah I initially thought I could use my Shimano road/CX Stages on my MTB (XT cranks), but I don’t think it will clear the chainstay, even if I could install it.

You might want to check out Tri360. The shop announced that it is closing and it’s liquidating its stock at deep discount. The shop carries Felts.
I checked out the website on the day that someone here posted about Tri360 closing (couple of weeks ago) – didn’t look like they had the V85. All their bikes appeared to be triathlon/time-trial or pure racing bikes, not like the V85, Viaje, or Renegade with their all-day riding geometries, tire clearances, etc.
I’ll try to stop by the shop in person though before they close for good.

ParticipantStopped by Tri360, mentioned that the forum referred me when asked. Picked up a balaclava, cold weather cycling gloves, Catlike Tako helmet to be my new summer helmet (yeah, getting late for that, but whatever – keeping the Bern for cold-weather use especially when I get the winter liner for it), and regular cycling gloves that happen to match the Tako’s color scheme – all for 45% off.
They also have a Sony waterproof action camera, also for 45% off. Unfortunately, picture resolution is only 2MP, which doesn’t seem like a lot for getting readable license plate still photos. That’s one reason the GoPro stuff is so popular – resolution is much higher.
They let me test-ride an Orbea Avant H30D, which is Orbea’s equivalent of the Felt V85, except it’s white and has a frame made in Spain. The clearance price is $1100 (about $200 off). Unfortunately, I remain hopelessly spoiled by the Renegade and Viaje XL. Also the Avant’s tire clearance is only 28mm, which doesn’t come close to what those two can accommodate.

ParticipantIn case you are a woman, size XS, XXL or most especially L, and are in need of a jacket for the season, there is some bizarre pricing anomaly going on at Amazon.com for the Gore Bike Wear Element jacket at the moment. The retail is $219.99, but easy to find online for $149. I think the price under $80 is quite a steal and under $50 — !
This seems to be the latest generation of the jacket I have. I love it; have used it since 2012. It held up well.

ParticipantOne of the GoPro “silver” camera models is on sale for $249 at a local Target store, marked down from $299. At the time I didn’t realize there’s are Hero 3, 3+, and 4 versions. I think this is the 3+ but I’m not sure.
I’m still leaning towards a ReplayXD Prime X, but maybe someone else wants a GoPro.

Always check amazon before buying anything on groupon. They’re almost always the same price, or cheaper.

Good point. Glad to see this thing actually works (Amazon reviews). Based on that one report of build quality, I wouldn’t pay more than $8 for this either.
