I got the REI 70% off announcement too and was going to start a thread about gloves…. Are any of these gloves suitable for cold-weather riding?
With Bar Mitts, all gloves are winter gloves!
But really, if you’re thinking of doing BAFS or just riding when its below 20, Bar Mitts, Moose Mitts, Pogies etc. That is what you really want.

Never heard of these before – they look interesting. Thanks!
I ended up just ordering a Topeak RideCase and Smartphone Drybag at closeout prices. I’ve been carrying my iPhone in my pocket, but it got wet when I got caught riding in the rain a couple of days ago.

Pro tip from observing dcv during BAFS — regular ziploc plastic bags work fine with smartphone touchscreens. Fragile, yes, but also cheap cheap!

I’ll keep that in mind. I have to admit that even the under $10 I paid for the Topeak is not as cheap as a ziploc bag.

ParticipantOther ways to help keep precious electronics dry is to put them inside your lunchbox then inside your bag (this has saved my phone in a pinch a few times). Having a ziplock back is always a good idea as mentioned. There is a youtube video where they compare them to more expensive options and they fare quite well.
Good bags, whether on your back or on your rack are worth the investment. Timbuk2, Chrome, Ortlieb, Banjo Bros etc all have waterproof options that hurt the bank-account, but hurt it a lot less than a new smart phone. Unless you use the Moto G … then some of the bags actually cost more than your phone… I’m not sure where that puts you then. I have an N+1 bag problem though.

Participant+1 for ziplocs. The freezer bags last a lot longer than the sandwich bags, but after a handful of uses, it’ll be hard to see your screen as they get kinda scuffed up. I had a recent ziploc-type bag that came with some product that fit my phone (moto g in case) perfectly that I’m gonna see if I can order in large batches (on aliexpress or something). Most of the dedicated phone cases that I’ve seen aren’t even waterproof which really defeats the purpose IMO. I always put my phone in a bag when putting in my jersey pocket, since it’d be soaked with sweat (if not rain).
+1 for waterproof bags anyway. My Banjo Bros backpack has been getting poured on this summer with my macbook inside. And at $70 they’re not that expensive.
And +1 for the water-resistant moto g! It has gotten fairly wet (usually sweat) a few times without any adverse affects.

ParticipantI have Ortlieb back panniers which I like a lot. I prefer to keep the iPhone closer at hand though, which was why I had it in my pocket. I wouldn’t have ordered the Topeak iPhone mount and waterproof holder if they weren’t so cheap and probably would have instead just carried a ziploc bag in my pocket on rainy days.

Yeah, prolonged contact with salt water can’t be good.

ParticipantI use a waterproof Lifeproof case which works well. But I have used Ziplock bags in the past and highly recommend them. I carry a Mophie external charger with me most of the time and keep it in a Ziplock. Never had a problem with it.

ParticipantPretty good deal for a new Volagi road bike, 53cm SRAM Rival. $1600 “Buy it now” price. No bids yet for auction.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Volagi-Liscio-Rival-Road-Bike-size-53cm-/252050041184?
Looks like it’s from a dealer:
New old stock. First model year for the Volagi I believe it is a 2012 bike. It has been on the sales floor and has had only brief test ride miles. It will be professionally packed in the original travel box and shipped anywhere in the continental US

You need a carbon disc-brake bike!
Just make sure it’s after they switched to 135 rear spacing.
P.S. I found that seatpost as I was “clearing out” the basement this AM. I’ll PM you.

I should have consulted the wise ones of this forum before ordering either product.
RideCase – The back looks like a piece of cardboard laminated with plastic, like my high school ID card. The opening for the headphone jack prevents headphone plugs from going all the way in. This thing might actually be flimsier than the case I’ve been using on my iPhone. The handlebar mount looks more solidly built at least.
Drybag – Looks like it might actually protect the iPhone from the elements. Fits on the mount that came with RideCase. However, the plastic is so thick I can’t use the fingerprint sensor to unlock my iPhone quickly, which I might want to do so I can quickly record video of unexpected events during my ride. Disposable ziploc bag wins there. There’s also a warning to not use the Drybag on hot days because it might overheat the iPhone.
Oh well, at least I didn’t spend that much on the two of them.

If they’re garbage return them!

ParticipantSpokes Etc. end of summer sale:
http://spokesetc.com/about/2015-summer-sale-pg1252.htmUnfortunately for me, none of the bikes on sale are the type I’m looking for (Felt V85 or similar), within the same price range as the V85.
