ParticipantThe TJ Maxx in Crystal City had this Dahon folding bike for $249.99. I assume it is a good deal but am not sure.

ParticipantIsn’t that store in the Potomac Yard shopping center? That’s in Alexandria, not Crystal City.

ParticipantEastern Mountain Sports in Clarendon is closing by the end of the month, according to ARLnow:
http://www.arlnow.com/2015/01/02/eastern-mountain-sports-in-clarendon-to-close/
It’s a smaller store so they don’t have (many/any?) bikes there. But they might have some bike clothing and basic bike accessories.

Planning to go there shortly. Anyone been there and have suggestions on good deals? I need all basic clothing. Especially winter items.

ParticipantPlanet-X seems to be having a sale on studly tires:
http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/TYSCSNST/schwalbe-snow-stud-wired-tyre
(and others too)
I’ve bought stuff from On-one (their sister company), and once you hit around 100 bucks, I think the price of shipping drops to $6.

That’s a sweet deal. I just put together a basket out of curiousity, and a pair of those Schwalbe studded tires comes shipped to the US for a total of 35 quid, ~53 bucks. Price per tyre, er, tire, is cheaper than first shows up on the screen, too, since VAT isn’t charged for overseas buyers like us Yanks. If I didn’t already have a pair of Nokians I like, I’d be all over this deal.

There’s a currency changing link too.
I’m sorely tempted to get a 26 inch set for the Troll, but I’d get kicked out of home.

ParticipantInteresting. I tried this a month ago when the tires first went on sale but I couldn’t get shipping to go below 55 pounds, so I skipped it.
I’ve purchased some wool items from them and have been very pleased.

ParticipantYeah, I haven’t quite figured out why, but I can almost always get Schwalbe tyr…tires…much cheaper from the UK than the US, including international shipping. Odd.

Yeah, I typically buy tires from the UK, since I’m buying european tire brands (Conti, Schwalbe, Hutchinson). $40-45/pc for the Conti tires sure beats walking into the LBS and paying $80. And free shipping helps.
