ParticipantSure, but you’d be obligated to buy it.

ParticipantI believe that this is a 46cm 1987 Miyata 615 GT with a 24″ front wheel. For those of shorter stature, this is one of the best mass produced touring bikes.

A special place in hell would be just deserts to whoever bastardized this into a “unique” hybrid.

Performance has their Ultra bibs on sale again for $60. That’s about as cheap as these get. These are really fantastic shorts; this model year is a bit longer than previous and the fabric is lighter/more breathable. Excellent improvements. These are probably the most comfortable shorts I own and at $60 are a fantastic deal.

Participant2014 Trek 7.3FX WSD for $499. It’s too small for me and besides, I just bought a bike (and have no room for more than one). But I figure anyone who bikes across American on a hybrid should get some love.

How true is the sizing compared to, say, Pearl Izumi? Rather, if I fit into medium PI shorts, will I also fit equally snugly into the Performance shorts?

I can’t speak to the men’s sizing but their women’s sizes run big. I wear a medium in Craft, Gore, Sugoi (don’t like any IP shorts) and most other brands. I just picked up the women’s version of these the other day since they were so cheap and sized down to a small.

For me the sizing is about the same, yes. Maybe slightly larger, but I wear a Large in both and the shorts are not baggy/saggy or anything. The Performance bib straps are a little longer.

ParticipantSlickdeals has an amazon deal on 3M 08582 36″ Door Edge Protection Film. $4.90 for a three-foot roll. You have to follow the deal instructions to get the deal pricing.
I got advice from a mechanic that this stuff makes a great chainstay guard while still remaining transparent. It is also good for spots around the frame that get rubbed by cable housings, etc. The only downside is that this is only 1/2″ wide so you’d have to use two strips side-by-side to really have good coverage on the chainstay.
