ParticipantWhat’s the “bundle”? Are they essentially giving you the software upgrades free?

ParticipantWith how lost my 500 gets on mountains and how many times it goes off course even in the flat plains of Delaware, I’d shy away from the 800 as it uses the same GPS chipset.

The bundle is the heart rate monitor and the cadence sensor.

Ahh, that makes more sense.

http://www.strava.com/segments/5185137 – Alpes..The latter two look like you just did some bad-a$$ MTBing. Roads?! I don’t need no stinkin’ roads…

REI has a good deal right now on the Garmin Edge 800 bundle. The start switch button on my Edge 500 is starting to be finicky, so maybe time to replace it after almost four years and 40,000 miles.
…which means that it’s likely there’s another one on the way…yup, Garmin 1000. With a bigger screen for the over-40 set with failing eyes like me.

Yeah I have two 500s and the older one does exactly that too, while the newer one is still fine. I had a KOM somewhere in the VA mountains “earned” the same way. Strava support will help you match segments that aren’t off by too much though, if you want the real segment marked up on the ride.
I’m not sure why unit life has an effect on accurate GPS tracking though.I’d go for a 510 or 810 as my next upgrade, probably. I mostly care about GPS accuracy/signal and battery life. Navigation is definitely nice to have but adds to cost, bulk and power consumption.

I did a full on factory reset on mine and it seemed to help a lot time to acquire satellites etc.

I don’t see it online, and unfortunately any GPS gadget is excluded from their anniversary sale, so you only get the 10% member refund next March. Quote: “Discounts not valid on bikes, hard-shell boats, stand up paddleboards, any item with GPS technology, activity trackers, personal locator beacons, avalanche airbag products, skis, ski boots or ski bindings; snowboards, snowboard boots or snowboard bindings.”
I might buy Planet Bike wired bike computer since it’s water proof and displays almost all information on one screen, but the odometer only goes to 999 Miles before rolling over to zero, but it’s worth the price. Here is a link to download the manual in case anyone is interested(Under “Related stuff” to the right).
