ParticipantThis is an insane price for a 56cm Trek 520: $125

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/bik/4077671156.htmlToo insane. And with so little detail. Very suspicious IMHO. Any reports of a 520 going missing lately?

Having an out of state phone number is pretty standard for DC. Mine is VA and the only reason my wife isn’t still on her number from law school is that Verizon wouldn’t let us get on a family plan with numbers from different regions.

The only reason phone numbers in any way suggest geographic location is purely inertia. (A lot of people are still using numbers from back when the number was tied to geography, and haven’t moved yet.)

I’m on a Verizon family plan with phone numbers from 3 different states…

ParticipantSeems the phone number is wrong anyway. http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/bik/4077899014.html
Now, if one was to sell a stolen bike on CL, why would one list it with a bad phone number and no other way to reply? Come to think of it, if one were to sell a legit bike on CL, why would one do this?
I’m thinking this phone number must belong to an ex who has extraordinary animosity towards bike nerds.

Maybe they just have a very bad case of dyslexia and are wondering why nobody is calling to buy their bike for $521!
Edit: But kidding aside, I ran google image search on it and found that the photo is apparently taken from http://www.memphishightailers.com/content.aspx?page_id=2155&item_id=179510 and the phone numbers from there and Craigslist seem to contain an awfully large number of digits in common (although the order is different).

ParticipantThis seemed fishy to me too
http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/bik/4074140942.htmlDahon D7(?) For $140 with little to no description. Same bike has been offered at $350 for months now in north west.

Different states is okay, it’s different regions that Verizon didn’t like. VA-MD-DC are in the same region.

I guess Verizon must like you two better than me. Don’t tell my wife, she’ll be ticked she had to give up her 860 number.

ParticipantMy size, too, and for the 26″ wheel size I now use. I don’t have the dough to consider this right now. I like my MTB drop bar conversion enough for now that I would possibly not jump at this even if I had the dough, but “thought someone might like it”.
