Drool. Bakfiets.

That’s been listed for a couple of weeks now. Might be ripe for bargaining.

ParticipantI think someone posted before and I think I said this before. But if not: I don’t think it’s bakfiets brand. If it is, it’s probably worth $1000, maybe $1250 (looks like probably $2000 new). If not, I’d be more leary. If someone gets details, I’d be happy to opine.

ParticipantI’m probably not in the market anyway. I have a lot of old frames under the house and a welder, and think it would be a fun challenge to build one.
In other news, there is a very nice rolling hard case right now at the Community Forklift (hyattsville, md) that looks the right size for a bike box. I’m not sure if a full size frame would fit without S&S couplers, but probably. Take your measuring tape. It’s $30. Currently it houses a display on energy efficient windows.
Not affiliated, I just shop there a bunch.

A 58? What you have to be at least 5’10 to ride one of those?

Wait wut? they sell them or were they just servicing someone’s? I’m curious to know what they look like in person.
That frame on the clymb was a pretty decent spec.

That’s a pretty good deal for a very nice spec’d bike! I’m still considering getting a front dyno hub wheel for the winter. Only problem is… disc brake or non disc brake wheel?

They were just servicing one – I think it was a Vive Le Roi – the model that was on Competitive Cyclist last year with the really big fat fork. It was in that really cool sweetpea color scheme too

ParticipantAh yeah, I looked Online Very Closely at that sweetpea model! It’s interesting what’s happening with Civilian. It seemed they quickly became the “in house brand” of backcountry/competitivecyclist and now they’re running solo again. Their newest batch of CX stuff is quite interesting, I like this SSCX with belt drive and disc brakes

In other news the Kona Jake 2014 is in ORANGE! fUUUUUUU guy trollface
That’s okay, just means I can still n+1 because I don’t have an orange bike yet.July 30, 2013 at 1:01 pm #976933KelOnWheels

I grabbed a Raleigh Detour Deluxe off craigslist to have as a “no excuses” bike. It has fenders, relaxed, but not very relaxed geometry, IGH, sloped top tube, dynahub for front and back lights, bars for panniers (oddly enough no rack), thicker tires. It takes away all of the “but the road is wet”, “but it’s dark”, “but it needs fixin'”, “but the lights need recharging” excuses for taking the bike around town. I love it. For trips under 3 miles, I don’t think twice about taking it.
My problem is that my commute is 4.5 miles, and it’s just a little too heavy and upright. It only adds 5-ish minutes each way, but it’s just not as happy commuting (especially going up the Rosslyn hill). But my road bike can’t take panniers. I got the Arkel rack, but it only works with a trunk bag. And now that I’ve gone sans backpack, I don’t want to go back. Any suggestions for how I can get panniers on a Felt ZW25? Or do I want to bite the bullet and find a touring bike that’s similar to the Felt geometry but made to carry stuff? And does anyone have one size 53-54 I could test-commute?

Or bite the bullet and pedal your new Raleigh until you get used to it and the hill seems easy.
