Miele Pantera-52cm, likely lugged Columbus tubing with RX100 (basically 105) components. Could be in rough shape, but it will only cost you 70 clams.June 18, 2013 at 10:43 pm #973299ShawnoftheDread

Is he the one with the storage shed next to unique thrift, or someone else in that area? He sells a lot of bikes on CL.

I haven’t dealt with him. Normally he fixes bikes up and sells them at prices I, being a cheap bastard, would not pay. The price might indicate the hopelessness of restoration. He also had a couple of 24″ old ten speed girl’s bikes for sale cheap.

I bought my new commuter from him. It needed new tires and saddle and some brake adjustment and a new chain (soon). I made a spreadsheet with the bike cost $115 and a parts list. I think I’ll be able to keep it under $400 which was my goal, thinking that I could get a low level sirrus for about that new. Yeah, I’m paying a bit for the fun of tinkering, but can you put a price on learning?
Oh, so the guy, yeah I think he gets a lot of auction bikes and sells the ones he can fix quickly and cheaply. Most bikes he has outside the storage shed are priced in the $200-$300 range and aimed at the cheap weekend warrior. My take is that he weighs his time against any potential dollar return. So make yourself a spreadsheet, get some info from bikepedia and figure out what it would cost in dollars and time to fix up. Plan for the worst and you’ll be right on targetJune 19, 2013 at 1:59 am #973319vvill

That’s one reason why I still have two of my older bikes ($300 new when bought). If I really screw something up it’s no big deal. The most fun I had was when I put a crank arm back on before checking it was at 180 degrees to the other. That’d make for an interesting pedal stroke.
