The island near RFK? Benning rd bridge in the background?
Rode by there with dcv a couple weeks ago and wondered what was across that wooden bridge. We rode a loop of the RFK GP Course instead of being adventurous.

It’s just kind of empty. It gets used for festival space like the Kingman Island Bluegrass Fest every year. There’s also a hobo camp if you turn right on the island and head south until the trail ends. But don’t do that…

I ride by this every day, and didn’t even know it was there. I saw it today, though!

Yep. It’s the bridge that I thought should have been in Mikey’s challenge. It’s cool, though not entirely skinny tire friendly. There was a couple headed over there on bikes, so I followed. I had never been to that corner of the world; thanks, Mikey, for a reason to do it! I think BicycleSpace does it’s Luau ride there. Definitely sounds like fun.
Riding past the RFK parking lot, all I could think was “why aren’t the Greenbelt crits here“. Or at least some of the early season office park races. Seems like a great place for a bike race!

There used to be a DC Crit there, attracted a huge Pro/Cat1 field with really large prize purses. http://blacknell.net/dynamic/2008/05/23/sunday-city-bikes-rfk-criterium/
apparently the permit process was a total nightmare. Most notably, I understand, was the fact that they would not give a firm date commitment more than about a month in advance.

Seems like a group could negotiate a standing race series there, get a discount on the fees, and be able to use the parking lot, e.g., every Tuesday night unless there’s an event/United game. I suspect that would get you 2/3 of the Tuesdays through the summer…

Yup. This time of year you can see it from the W&OD, but it probably gets you on some kind of watch list if you look at it too long.

Lol. I rode around there over the summer after reading about the noise complaints from the AC units. I didn’t really notice much noise, but I don’t live that close to it…

ParticipantEasy one — It’s easy to use strava or Flickr for this one… or you could have gone on the ride with me.
Just curious who knows this monument by sight.

The Georgetown Exorcist stairs. I watched them film that movie from the window of my French class!

I think I just figured out that you (jopamora) are Peter K! Am I right? Your avatar should have been the tip off, but I mean how many people have pictures of this whatever it is? If it IS you Pete, let me know and it was great riding with you Vin, and Greg that fun Sunday!
