oh, like anyone pays attention to those silly things anyway.
You are right, you can tell from the photo below that some cyclists were trying to create new markings.

ParticipantBike lane markings at Route 197 and Powder Mill Road in Bowie.
This might not look like much, and it isn’t, but it represents a big change for Maryland SHA to put bike symbol paint on the road. They prefer to build superspeedways with super wide lanes and ramps, and then plant a share the road sign alongside.

ParticipantNo pictures, but I’m happy at the work being done to get the M St. Cycle Track put into place on M St. West of 18th St. NW. That said, I’m going to be extra super duper glad when all of the crazy unrelated construction and road work is over in that corridor…it’s been a rather…interesting…ride for the past couple of months.
Also, I’ll be glad when/if they make it clear the new cycle track isn’t extra parking.

Didn’t stop to take pictures, but they were working on resurfacing Commonwealth Avenue in Alexandria this AM between Monroe Ave and Braddock. This stretch was bad to begin with, but had become exceptionally torn up/potholed over the winter. Given that it’s an important N-S bike route in Alexandria, the resurfacing alone will be a huge improvement, and while I’m not aware of any plans to do anything else, converting some of the areas w/ sharrows to full-on bike lanes would be a nice add-on to the project.
This project appears to be complete with the addition of the line striping and sharrows.

ParticipantAll three of Arlington’s FY15 Transportation Alternatives Grants were funded.
$400,000 to construct the Four Mile Run / Potomac Yard trail connection. (They had previously gotten a grant for design) Once the $100,000 local match is factored in, this is, in theory, fully funded.
$400,000 for Safe Routes to School improvements around Ashlawn Elementary School and McKinley Middle School, which may include a trail connection from the Four Mile Run Trail to Manchester Street near Ashlawn.
$200,000 for ADA upgrades in the Rosslyn / Ballston Corridor. Improved curb ramps are certainly helpful for us cyclists as well.
More about the funding.
More about Arlington’s Applications.May 21, 2014 at 6:47 pm #1002000chris_s
ParticipantAlso given that some crazy high percentage of requests were funded (like more than 90%) and all of Arlington’s requests ranked very highly, I think Arlington should request more in the future…

Hooray! It would be awesome if they connected Manchester to Manchester with a trail down there, and connected that to FMR.
