ParticipantThis makes no sense to me, but glad to see that paint continues to be the solution to all bicycle safety issues in Arlington.

The Eads St connection to the 4MRT between the power substation and the water treatment plant has been modified with paint. I’m not sure what they are trying to accomplish with the sidewalk markings, no one one rides their bikes in that direction. Maybe that’s to steer someone away from the curb drop-off? The curb cut wasn’t widened, but not now bears a bright yellow coat of pain.

Sometime soon, I will get by here *at night* to see if it *does* keep someone from wrecking on the curb.

I wonder why they’re so stubbornly resistant to adding a cold patch ramp. Instinctive reaction to the idea of taking “car lane” space? (I can get why they don’t want to add a cut, that would probably cost a couple hundred thousand dollars.)

The Bicycle Advisory Committee liaison wrote me the following email on Monday
County staff have been working with the contractors to have a temporary asphalt ramp added, as well as additional striping and reflective marking to improve visibility. The contractor said this should be addressed shortly, I can let you know about any updates.

ParticipantA “couple” hundred thousand? Golly, I’m in the wrong business.

Well, I’ll bet you lunch that Dominion now thinks they are all done, thank you, and no ramp will be built unless the issue gets elevated again. I suspect our liaison was given bad information.

ParticipantAnd all the way across the District and into Hyattsville.
What are they thinking???? Shouldn’t the barrels be on the other side of the crosswalk? They weren’t doing any work there.

The south end of the Rhode Island Avenue Trolley Trail at Farragut and Rte 1. Construction all the way down to Maryland Mead Works and Shortcake Bakery at Charles Armentrout Dr. I assume (Yeah I know) this is for the missing piece connecting to the Anacostia Tributary Trail System? Looks like it’s close to being ready to pave. Also lots of fresh pavement and trail markings from Riverdale Community Park north. Paving in the park this morning. There are now two connector trails from Muskogee St into the Hollywood Shopping Center parking lot to get to Proteus.

And that they’re hoping that we will go away.

ParticipantThe overpass, uh, I mean bridge, at the Lake Accotink dam is open! It looks impressive with its massive supports and unnecessary bollards and sign.

Sign left over from its previous steep configuration?

ParticipantExcellent! Accotink running loops back in the mix for this summer, and MTB trail connection between the two parks without necessarily needing to hit Danbury Forest Drive.
The sign is a good joke. It’s like the one telling cyclists to dismount at the DCA exit that no person in the history of humankind has ever followed. When you post excessive and meaningless rule-ish things, people ignore even sensible rules, and peoples’ judgment sucks.
