Well, Benjamin Harrison was William Henry Harrison’s grandson, after all.

Okay Dismal, you seem to be the master of the obscure. You got anything for Harrison close by that’s not Berkeley Plantation south of Richmond?

Well, the closest (only) Tippy Canoes I could find are in Osceola, WI and Troutdale, OR. I guess it would be quicker to ride to Tippecanoe County in Indiana.

There is another connection, but potentially just as obscure.

Next hint: This one is likely gettable only by long time Arlingtonians (who also know a little presidential trivia)

Also, since Kayak C’s has already moved us on, the only potential reason for anyone to care is because I am angling for the obscureness award….or because you like a good challenge.

    The things you learn:

Tippicanoe and Tyler too was the first presidential campaign slogan. They even had a song.

(This is admittedly obscure and may require some hints. First hint: this is not a geographical reference)

    This also qualifies for Taylor:

The funeral procession included “Old Whitey”—Taylor’s horse during the Mexican campaigns—parading with an empty saddle and inverted spurs.

YES! Harrison’s favorite horse was called, ‘Whitey.” Tallula’s restaurant replaced the old, venerated Whitey’s on Washington Blvd. at Pershing.
    Dismal – you are amazing.

Hardly. We have a place in Williamsburg. We drove the 20 miles to Charles city courthouse and then rode a lovely completed section of the Virginia Capital trail to Berkeley Plantation.

I’m very annoyed that I now have to bike to National Harbor for my cute idea for the next one…

So you’re hosting the Bike Arlington sleep over for the Cap-to-Cap the first weekend in May?

Absolutely! Come on down. I’ve got one guest room and one sleeper sofa plus lots of floor space.

I already registered dave and myself and another friend is joining us as well. Our place is about 6 miles from the start of the Williamsburg rides so LY we just rode from our house and turned the 50 miler into a metric.

Seriously, if you are interested in joining us let me know. We love sharing our get away place!

    Are we on Tyler now?

Can someone post a tippy canoe photo for this one? I want to like it. :)
