It’s mid week, so it’s time for our next Freezing Saddles Side Bet! For this challenge ” Find the Founding Fathers”, we will not be competing in teams, nor will there be any benefit to being in one state over another. FSSB #3 will be in the format of a photo meme, so get those cameras ready. To complete the tasks of FSSB #3, you will have to ride your bike to a place, any place that mentions, alludes to, honors, is named for, or could be perceived to represent one of President of the United States. Take a picture of your bike with that location and post it on the forum. The trick (there is always a trick) is that you have to post a photo of the presidential items in order from Washington to Obama. For example I have posted a photo of my bike at the “Washington Marina”. Once you post your photo write the name of the president in the text section. like this:

    WASHINGTON

Feel free to be as obvious or as obscure as you like. I could have posted a photo of the Washington Monument, or even the Masonic Temple. Be creative. To be able to go on to the next president, at least 3 forum people have to “like” the post. Other rules, Washington was easy (the entire town is named for him) so I took it to start the process, once we get 3 likes we can move on to “John Adams” If you have a better photo and the current one doesn’t have 3 likes, then by all means make the steal. The White house or other POTUS site that is not specific to any one president will not work. There only needs to be one photo for each president, you don’t have to post your own list of presidents, just the next one in order. Multiple presidents in one photo are okay, but you only get credit for the next one. You have to have at least 1 bike in the picture. The picture has to be taken starting today. Also, the name in question doesn’t actually have to be “written” in the photo like “Washington” in Washington Marina was. Nicknames are also acceptable. Have fun and remember it’s all for fun. We are already winners!

Should add to the challenge that it only counts if you find the ACTUAL FDR memorial, not the poseur memorial down by the tidal basin. :) Anyone know where the actual memorial is? The one FDR asked for? Anyone?

I believe it is on Pennsylvania Avenue near the Archives.

Did he mention this request to you personally, back in the day?

I expect to see Subby’s bike in front of the city limit sign in Jefferson, MD soon.

No, knowing him, it will be Jefferson City, MISSOURI!

I’m really not looking forward to seeing the photographs associated with either Johnson administration.

Do we have to wait for Mikey to tell us we’re off to Monroe?

Good point Dismal, new rule, 3 more likes than dislikes, and once we/ve moved on to the next President, we’ve moved on. Post an Adams photo and it doesn’t matter how many dislikes my Washington gets.

By all means no. Just 3 likes that’s the go ahead.

I went to, but didn’t take a picture at, James Monroe Park over my lunch break. I only know/think it’s called that b/c of Google Maps. There’s no mention of the man anywhere there. Pretty sad. At least a plaque would have been nice, if not a bust. Oh well…

Since we can’t always be on the forum, perhaps people could also tweet when it’s time to move on to a new prez:
    hashtags: #FSSB3 #freezingsaddles (optional)

    What say?

Also, did I mention that I think this is a cool side bet? Fun.

    I am not a bird.

P.S. Does the Del Rey Cafe still go by the name Monroe’s? I haven’t been there for ages.

Yes. But it’s actually named after the guy from Too Close for Comfort.

It’s ok, the Hay-Adams is not named for John Adams, and that didn’t stop any likes…

remember obfuscation is good. I was going to get a photo of the Adams building of the Library of Congress if no one got things going, but I’m fine with that Fast Friendly Guys choice. After Monroe, I hope the next photo of adams is clearly J.Q. Adams.
