The question (for those sleep deprived of us) is: which one goes later…

Buying a house with a lawn had a serious effect on my view of rain. Now I just think “oh good, it’s raining, I don’t have to water the lawn and that’s less money toward the water bill.” Growing up is really lame.

Watering a lawn? Who does that?

Pro tip: weeds, when mowed regularly, look just like grass.

Thanks to the folks that braved the rain this morning and joined me at Java; Consularrider (thanks for the gloves…. game changer!), Culimerc, Brian (an original FCC member.. awesome to meet you), and of course DismalScientist. Another good start to Friday. The rain even let up and I could see daylight as I ended my ride!

It was good to see Dickie and culimerc before I headed to FCC. On my way back, I saw DismalScientist on the Roosevelt Bridge. I liked finally having some blue show through at the end of my ride too. :D

Please advise: what is the best way to get from the W&OD east of the Custis to the Coffee Club II site?

Jim, here’s some advice from earlier in the thread that might help.

Depends on where you are coming from. If you are coming from the WOD, you can jump off at Ballston and take the bike lanes along Fairfax/Wilson. It’s actually more direct distance-wise and hardly any elevation change, but you have to deal with stop lights.

You could jump off near W-L and cut over on 13th/Key, which is residential and pleasant if you don’t mind a steep hill at 13th and Kirkwood.

Another simple option is to come up Vietch. (If you don’t want to remember a bunch of turns)

At least, that’s the way I’d go.

From DC, my plan is cross the Key Bridge, get on Custis, left on Veitch, and right on Wilson Blvd. In my memory I associate Veitch with a hill, but can’t remember if that’s coming or going.

Veitch is at the top of the climb from Rosslyn with just a little more after you turn left across Lee Highway from the stoplight.

The hill is up for those going from Custis to Wilson, though luckily it is a very short hill.

Thanks for suggestions on how to get to the CCII. I hope to see you this Friday or next.

Good to see the regulars this morning. Consularrider and dbb rode with me out to Merrifield… really nice to have some company for once. Hope your rides back were dry and dbb’s Clovis meeting was a success!
