Since I am always heading in the opposite direction I have not been able to enjoy the FCC in DC, so I wondered if anyone else would be interested in starting a parallel FCC in Arlington on Friday mornings? Perhaps at Northside Social? We will have to deal with being the bastard children of the FCC (is that a Clash song?) but that’s pretty fitting for those of us who don’t cross the river all that much. Anyone interested in stopping for java this friday, perhaps around 7:30am?

What’s the best route to Java Shack from the eastbound Custis?

Depends on where you are coming from. If you are coming from the WOD, you can jump off at Ballston and take the bike lanes along Fairfax/Wilson. It’s actually more direct distance-wise and hardly any elevation change, but you have to deal with stop lights.

You could jump off near W-L and cut over on 13th/Key, which is residential and pleasant if you don’t mind a steep hill at 13th and Kirkwood.

Another simple option is to come up Vietch. (If you don’t want to remember a bunch of turns)

At least, that’s the way I’d go.

I like this one best if you want to stick mostly to trails.

So it was originally proposed as FCC2, and then changed to TCC because we didn’t want to steal people away from the already occurring FCC1, but now we are changing it back to FCC2 because we don’t care about stealing people from FCC1?

I originally thought a parallel FCC in Arlington would provide an alternate place to meet for coffee for folks that do not travel into DC, or are heading in the opposite direction. I for one have always loved the idea of the FCC but with schedules and my route it is never possible. From there a Herndon idea was proposed and I thought a collective FCC across the board seemed pretty interesting. As more FCC’s pop up riders from all over the area would always have a place to go and have coffee with the chance of meeting up with forum members no matter where their travels lead them that day. Also, keeping it on Fridays I thought was a smart way to keep it on peoples radars. I only suggested the change when a few forum members posted concerns about having to chose between the two clubs, apologies for not thinking it through.

I want to drink coffee and start my day with some friendly faces so whatever the rest of you decide is good with me….

Um no. This would be FCC3. FCC2 is the Friday Coffee Club. FCC1? That’s where I work.

I agree that Friday is probably the best day.

I may have to figure out how to implement a “dislike” button for terrible posts like this that make me groan…

No need to over think this- there are lots of us who will rarely or never make a FCC downtown, making it a “thing” in Arlington, Herndon and other locations (Bethesda? Silver Spring?) might pull the occasional FCC downtown regular but will increase the overall participation.

As an occasional attendee at FCC at Swings in DC, I particularly value the company and discussion. I’m lucky in the sense it is on the way to work (or wherever I’m going). An alternate FCC in Arlington or elsewhere would provide that sense of cycling community in a different location. I don’t see competition here, but an expansion of the FCC franchise.

I don’t mind a steep hill ordinarily, though I worry that it’s you calling it a steep hill.

What time you leaving? Maybe we can ride down together.

I try to get the monkeys out of the house about 7:00 to 7:10, which means I get to Cherry about 7:25 to 7:40.

Ok, now I’m dizzy…when is this happening?

Are we having the Arlington Coffee Club on Thursday morning or Friday morning?

Once that’s clear, we should probably post a separate thread announcing the get-together to avoid confusion.

Nice turn out for the inaugural FCCII on Thursday. To bad it was below freezing and we didn’t feel like sitting outside. ;)
