2/5/21 – Stationary Clock or Other Time Telling Device

Another one close to home – the clock on the Post Office at Westover (22205 in Arlington). Note the “No skateboards, bicycle riding or roller skating” sign. I have a grammatical nit to pick with the writer of the sign. Why doesn’t it read “No skateboarding …” rather than “No skateboards”?

BTW, the picture was taken at 2:07 PM – the fact that the clock reads 4:35 makes a statement about the Post Office’s loose relationship with time these days.

There’s a bank clock on the way I get home when going from the Wiehle Station. They haven’t discovered DST time shifts so I *always* think I’m running an hour late. It probably explains some of my faster times for the leg between the station and my house.

The Old Post Office tower that sits above the Trump International Hotel. Seems to be telling the correct time, which is often not the case with public clocks I have observed.

WAIT!! DCAken’s photo shows the same time as mine. Were we there together?
Or did I just happen to be there around the right time (I haven’t checked my strava to see what time it actually was; I’m just estimating)

Looking carefully at the shadows, it seems we were there within a few minutes of each other to take our respective photos. Wow.

Okay, we could not have missed each other by 90 seconds.
    DCAken’s are on the left

look at the light reflections from off the windows across the street. Virtually identical. It appears the sun had moved down just a fraction between his and mine, moving the reflection up a foot or two on the hotel.

    2/5/21 – Clock / Time telling device

I always like riding by the The Clock Shop in Vienna and today I finally had an excuse to stop, take a photo, and look at all the clocks in the window display.

2/6/21 – Ice Cream or Frozen Yogurt

Weirdly enough, this year the 6th of February – one of the coldest months in the US – is both National Frozen Yogurt Day and Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day.

On your ride, capture ice cream or frozen yogurt: it can be the thing, a storefront, or a sign. If one of the two last options, it should have the words “Ice Cream” or “Frozen Yogurt”.

If you want 2 points (total), make your photo a selfie holding the ice cream or frozen yogurt. If you don’t want to doxx yourself, cover your face up with your mask/gaiter/buff.

    Happy hunting! :)

Pic below is a real jersey for the kids’ segment of the local DC-Area mountain bike club (MORE).

If you want to see the jersey in action or just feel warmer, here’s a vid I made a couple of years ago at one of our summer picnics. It has at least a handful of Bike Arlington regulars. See if you can find any :) https://vimeo.com/343114786

On February 5, 1924, the Greenwich Time Signal (aka the pips) was introduced; it marks the precise start of each hour.

During your ride, capture a stationary clock or other time-telling device in a photo and post here. “Stationary” means something that is affixed or doesn’t move easily, and not something like a wristwatch or phone. Wall clocks are fine.

    Happy hunting! :)

Somewhere along the main drag at a bus stop in Crystal City

Grrr finally got these to upload at 5 am. What’s the deal? They will not drag to the attachment space. Finally got them to insert even though I kept getting irritating messages to drag them. Not even sure how I finally did it. Is my membership on some weird, complicated setting again?
