On February 5, 1924, the Greenwich Time Signal (aka the pips) was introduced; it marks the precise start of each hour.

During your ride, capture a stationary clock or other time-telling device in a photo and post here. “Stationary” means something that is affixed or doesn’t move easily, and not something like a wristwatch or phone. Wall clocks are fine.

    Happy hunting! :)

This is where I took my prom photos. Obligatory, “Where has the time gone?”. It’s here.

The clock rises above the swamp. Curiously, the tower itself is under the purview of the National Park Service. Unfortunately, it’s not currently open for tours, since there’s a great view from the top.

I missed my first park, found a park walked the bike thru 10” of snow to get my bike into the picture. Behind the park sign was this cute timepiece so I’m sharing. Boonton, NJ was where my Dad was a family doctor, Main Street has 4 pizza and 3 coffee shops and a movie theater where you walk in under the screen. Fun Sopranos fact: when Vito goes to New Hampshire, the town of Dartford was really Boonton. The clock is in the park filmed in the Sopranos and I biked passed the B&B on Cedar St.

This is the Memorial Sun Dial at the entrance to the Walker Nature Center in Reston. The sundial is in memory of Vernon Walker, the founder and first director of the nature center. It’s number 369 of the Sundial Registry of the North America Sundial Society. It is oriented to tell true solar time.

I spent almost 10 minutes trying to find a sundial at Mont. College in Rockville. I gave up.
Luckily, I had taken this picture earlier that was just across the street from my Civil War marker. (just in case)

Another one close to home – the clock on the Post Office at Westover (22205 in Arlington). Note the “No skateboards, bicycle riding or roller skating” sign. I have a grammatical nit to pick with the writer of the sign. Why doesn’t it read “No skateboarding …” rather than “No skateboards”?

BTW, the picture was taken at 2:07 PM – the fact that the clock reads 4:35 makes a statement about the Post Office’s loose relationship with time these days.

I went on today’s ride obsessed with time! Hurry up and finish work! Late for a very important date! Tick tock, tick tock, we all live by the clock!!

But I couldn’t find a stationary clock anywhere I went. Not a clock tower, nor a sun dial. But it occurred to me that we must be surrounded by time telling devices if we all live by the clock! Then I looked up, and there it was!

But does anyone really know what time it is? Does anybody really care? About time??

    Hi, LhasaCM,
Thanks for playing, very cool paint job on your bike. Please see rule #11. Looking forward to your future entries for the FS21 Daily Scavenger Hunt!

Well, to be fair – since I took the picture after I got home, and actually don’t think I even rode that bike yesterday, I also violated rule 2. And as subtle as the branding is, one could also argue it violated rule 13 (I know it’s there and even in real life it’s barely discernible). Do I get negative points for each rule I broke? :)
