    2/4/21 – Rose or Rosa

The Franciscan Monastery in Brookland has beautiful rose gardens. Here you can see the thorny stems of a “Veteran’s Honor Dark Red Hybrid Tea Rose” plant in the snow.

Civil rights hero Rosa Parks was born on February 4, 1913. Because she defiantly refused to move to the back of that bus many years ago, her action has improved all of our lives.

On your ride, find either a “rose” or “Rosa”, snap a pic, and post it in this thread.

    Happy hunting! :)

Very nice! So sorry about your Fly6. That’s an expensive loss! Glad you got your vaccine though!

Thanks! The Fly 6 was the oldest model (from 2016) and the battery wasn’t lasting as long as it had, so I was thinking of replacing it anyway. But it was still a bit of a shock to get back to Bethesda Metro after my vaccine to find it missing. How rude! Then again, my mood was so good after getting the vaccine that nothing could spoil it.

I had the original Fly6 too and the battery was like yours. Our club did a group buy so I got a new one and sent the older one to my son. He rides much faster than I so his rides are much shorter – doesn’t need the battery to last as long! lol He’s at the age where it’s all about the goals, not so much about the journey.

I’m not in group 1B so I just continue to stay far away from most people and get that Vitamin D every day!

2/5/21 – Stationary Clock or other time telling device

I ride past this sun clock every time I go to Madrid…just not at the same time!

Damn, rumipumi and CBGanimal also had the sundial idea. What’s more stationary than something with no moving parts?

This is Sundial by Alexander Stirling Calder (the father of the Alexander “Sandy” Calder who made the massive mobiles, among other works).

The USNO clock. The actual clock is inside.

I’m in Group 1C. Giant is scheduling people in that group in Maryland
. It just took refreshing the scheduling page about 50,000 times over five days to get an appointment.

The sun came out! This sundial really is awesome. It has a calendar function as well – marks where the tip of the shadow will hit at noon during certain times of the year.

This is the clocktower at the “Village Center at Dulles” but I’ll bet if you referred to the shopping center as anything but “The clocktower in Herndon” people wouldn’t have a clue. This is also the home of A-1 Cycling, our dear friends!

2/5/2021 — stationary clock. Like CaseyKane50, I also went to Alexandria’s City Hall:

I interpreted “on your ride” differently. It was subtle to begin with, and the paint job has taken quite a bit of abuse over the years, but here is a closeup of my front fork with the bike’s brand “Rose” in raised lettering.

    Hi, LhasaCM,
Thanks for playing, very cool paint job on your bike. Please see rule #11. Looking forward to your future entries for the FS21 Daily Scavenger Hunt!
