    1/30/21 – Skateboard (or Park)

I thought at first this was a skateboarder coming in fast behind me on the crowded MBT and whipped my phone around to catch the action.

1/30/21 – Was riding around The Wharf in DC and saw this with couple walking around with skateboards. How random is that?

    1/30/21 – Skateboard
Two problems with trying to get a photo of someone on a skateboard with all four wheels off the ground:

    1. Timing has to be perfect. Which is tough with a phone camera, because there is a second or so delay between when you press the button and when it takes the photo, which is too long. So you have to predict when this is about to happen, and press the button then.
    2. When you hang around a skateboard park and take a whole lot of photos (because it takes practice to manage–see #1), you -start getting pointed questions about whether one of those kids is yours, and if not, why you’re taking pictures of them. I had to engage in some hasty explanation that I was involved in a scavenger hunt, not pedophilia.

Fortunately, in the end, I got the photo and did not get arrested. I’m counting that as a win.

Kensington Skate Park. Recommended by many as the place where they don’t make you wear padding, which I’m not sure I would consider a recommendation.

1/31/21 – “Henri Desgrange” subanagram (5-letter or more word, not the object)

On January 31, 1865, the first organizer of the Tour de France – Henri Desgrange – was born. Using just the letters in his name, find a 5-letter or longer word (not the object) out in the wild. Same rules as usual for these subanagram hunts, the most important being: the word can’t be on something portable like an iPad, phone, or anything you bring yourself from home.

There is a bonus 2 points for this hunt for one person, to be revealed in the attached picture of the first TDF winner, after the day’s hunt is over. A clue is that it is not about finding the longest word.

If you’re in the DC area where it’s forecasted to be inclement weather, PLEASE be careful, and don’t take any risks for this hunt if it’s snowy or icy outside. It’s just 1 point in a long game.

    Happy hunting! :)

    “Green”

I decided to get ahead of the snow and take a midnight ride.

Perhaps unbeknownst to Wikipedia, Henri Desgrange enjoyed gardens. :)

Range. Which I think may even qualify for the bonus. And I got it in before the snow.

Of course, as soon as I got this shot set up, a voice came over the loudspeaker informing me that the location was closed, and that if I did not vacate the premises immediately, I’d be arrested. Apparently, their alarm system doesn’t recognize the vital necessity of getting out just after midnight and finding an anagram of Henri Desgrange. I decided it was the better part of valor to vacate the premises immediately.

I am not sure I understand what to do for the bonus 2 points. Can Ricky or someone else explain, please?
