Participant1/30/21 – Skate Park or Skateboard (found in the wild)
West End Park in Falls Church has a small skateboard park. One guy was there messing around. Turns out it was his first time. I did witness him get his skateboard from the ground to the edge of a bench ever so briefly. Here’s a photo taken just as liftoff is underway.

Well no wonder the skater dudes at Powhatan Springs looked so nonplussed at my standing there with my bike taking pictures – clearly I was at least the 4th one there today! [emoji38]
This guy really tried, but I don’t think he got off the ground. I did get this cool shadow pic though. (My bike is in the original picture, but I wanted to post a zoomed in version, so the bike isn’t visible here.)

Another one I could satisfy close to home, as the Powhatan Springs skate park is just a mile from home. It was mostly kids at the park – no one in the deep bowls doing anything really exciting. Plus, I didn’t want to be a creepy old guy loitering and taking pictures of the kids skating. The closest I got to capturing any air was this kid jumping up out of a bowl.

Was this picture taken on a bike ride? _X_ Yes ___ No
I had no idea there was a skate park back there! It’s amazing what Dr. Evil has us finding/noticing around the area! Loving this quest.

On January 30, 1988, INXS land their first and only US #1 hit with Need You Tonight, which was on the album called Kick. On the cover of the album is a skateboard.
Bonus point if you capture someone doing a trick where their board is off the ground.

This kid did some tricks for me.

I had no ride plan for today but found inspiration in today’s hunt. I went on a Tour de Skateboard park, managing to go to 5 different skateboard parks in 5 different municipalities. I went to West End in Falls Church, Powhattan Springs in Arlington, Schuyler Hamilton Jones in Alexandria, Wakefield Park in Fairfax County and Van Dyke in Fairfax City. The best photo I got was from Powhattan Springs which was hopping when I was there.

This guy told me that I wasn’t the first one who wanted to take his picture doing a trick and he was so nice, telling me that he was happy to help.
Skateboard is halfway off the ground, having just traveled the rail. I didn’t want to annoy him asking for multiple tries since obviously I wasn’t the first and I was pretty sure wouldn’t be the last.

This is Luke who was at the Hyattsville Skate Park with his Dad and sister. Boomer, former skateboarder himself, coached him on how to pivot his hips so he could do a 360 and also encouraged him to “commit” to doing the trick. Luke was so excited as each time to tried he got better. By the time we left he had almost mastered the trick.

Participant1/30/21 – Skateboard (or Park)
Had fun watching the skateboarders today in a few parks.
Obviously, others were much better at getting good shots of boards in the air than me. There are some great shots posted today.
Here is my shot from Wakefield. The guy had some really good air at the top of the halfpipe, but he’s far away so it is tough to see; but I think still visible. That’s him in the middle of the pic with board in the air above the pipe that’s far away.

OOOhhh, so pretty! Is this somewhere in Prince George’s County? I seem to remember seeing it back in the ‘before times’.

Boomer should get double points for leading yet another youngster astray! Rock on!
