1/19/2021 — Beetle. My original plan was to post a photo of ladybugs depicted in a mural, because ladybugs are a type of beetle. But as I was getting close to finishing up my ride, I realized that I was a little bit short on my decasleaze. So I decided to do an extra lap around the neighborhood to get the extra distance I needed. I turned onto a street I don’t normally turn onto, and there it was — a bright red Beetle.

Bethesda is apparently not a Beetle kind of town. No Beetles along my ride. No Beetles at two different multistory garages I checked out. Not even any Beetles at the Volkswagen dealership. Best I could come up with was from the Amazon bookstore–which still didn’t have any of the car type of Beetles.

While I was tempted to find an image of the Beatles somewhere, I went with the traditional VW bug aka beetle. In our house, we play the Punch Buggy game but only the old style VW bugs count. Funny story… I explained the Punch Buggy game to my kids when they were 3 and 5 years old. Even though they were excited by the possible free pass of punching each other, an uneventful week passed without incident when, out of the blue, my oldest punched me. He had forgotten to call the color of the bug passing by so I was not particularly receptive to the punch and asked (ok, sternly yelled) what that was for. With tears in his eyes he said it was the Punch Buggy game. Feeling a little bad, I did what any good parent would do … I punched him back, smiled and reminded him that he needed to call the color of the bug. 😎
