    1/12/21 – The Bat Hunt

Easy, go to the nature center and read the signs: all forest, no bats.

Go to National Wildlife Federation: ghosttown, no bat houses, displays or anything bat-worthy.

Go to the USPS and ask to buy bat stamps—oh no, a $0.37 first class. Staff was very kind and I have a backup picture of bat stamps in the post office.

    Go to LBS:not open.

Give up and go to Total Wine & eureka! Success, and because I didn’t bring the bike in, I had to buy the beer and bring it to the house. Problem: cannot W&OD trail patrol carrying a 6-pack on the rack, just not ladylike. Also, in 2017 my son & I visited Rogue Brewing in Portland, OR. He takes me to all the nice places!

I rode to George C. Yeonas Park, Home of the Vienna Little League, to see the statue of a small little league batter and pitcher. Alas, the bat was missing from his hands. There was a stick nearby. Isn’t a stick a “bat” in stick ball? I took the picture, then found a mural. See my post in the PublicArtFinder thread for the small batter.

The Spanish Association for the Conservation and Study of Bats (SECEMU) is a non-profit, state-level association that brings together people interested in carrying out studies and developing conservation activities for bats in Spain, promoting in particular their protection. This is part of the University of Alcala.

This was a tougher one, but in DC, there’s an advocacy group for everything. I just couldn’t take my bike in the lobby to get it in the picture

Like Bikesnick, I went to Yeonas Park. And like him, I found that the little batter was BYOB. Since bringing my own would violate the rules (and who knew anyway – at that point I was 8 miles from home too), I went to the nearby brush and found an appropriate sized bat for him. After the photo, I left the bat for others. I just had no idea the other would be someone playing this game! The sun angle makes it a little difficult to see, but it’s definitely there!

And for extra “screw up” points, somehow I first posted in the main Freezing Saddles thread and have no idea how to delete it. sigh.

If all else failed, I was going to go to a liquor store for a bottle of Bacardi rum, whose logo is a bat.

On January 12, 1966, ABC premiered its Batman television series, starring Adam West as the caped crusader and Burt Ward as Robin.

    Happy hunting!
