ParticipantI saw the moon sign that I missed yesterday.
A two bell ride (plus another in a steeple I didn’t take a picture of).
810 Beaver Dam Rd near The Pines, PA. I had a nice chat with the owner when I asked permission to take the photo. She mentioned that her son and daughter (a few farms further south) just got new bikes and love to ride.

1/8/21 – Bell (but not on a bike) OR an Elvis
January 8 is Elvis Presley’s birthday. What were at the bottom of his jumpsuits? Bells! Post a pic of a bell that isn’t on a bike OR an Elvis you spot on your ride (just 1 pic please). Happy hunting!
Josh – the only acceptable answer from you (and only you) is the Liberty Bell since you left us to go to Philly
Home to the King!

1/8/21 – Bell or Elvis
Well, I remembered an Elvis gingerbread decoration that a neighbor had a Christmas, so I went back to see if it was still out and alas, it was not! Sigh. So I was therefore relegated to find an actual bell. I went to THREE churches, and NO BELLS! I should have cycled over to the Catholic church, but I had no time. I noticed bells on the St. Thomas Moore church from the window while at my PT appointment. But I DID manage to find some Christmas bells that hadn’t been put away with, so I went with those, and those red bells are my entry. I did, however, go back and find my Elvis gingerbread man from an old photo just so you could see it and enjoy it. So, the bells are are my entry, not the Elvis gingerbread, which is just for fun.

Bell tower at national shrine. Bells starting chiming at 6:00 right when I was taking this photo telling me I was late for dinner, no time for a better photo!

It’s a little more than that, it looks like vbulletin does (or at least did) funky stuff with their image uploads. Well, they claim it’s a feature not a bug 😎
For me, when I had a photo I’d taken in portrait (on my Android phone) orientation, I’m pretty sure I had to rotate it three or four times (I know, it doesn’t make sense) 90 degrees and re-upload until the orientation (as displayed on the forums) was correct. It certainly wasn’t intuitive.
For me if I save the photo on my hard drive with the correct orientation, it will post here (and on strava) correctly. If I try to rotate on my phone or point-and-shoot camera, this site reverts to the original image anyway like today’s farm house dinner bell.

Bell or ElvisBell Tower on St Mary of Sorrows Historic Church in Fairfax, Station. This church was dedicated in 1858. The original bell was replaced by a bell that was cast in Baltimore in the mid 1880’s.

ParticipantThanks for the last few days’ submissions everyone. I’m loving the entries and the tidbits of info that come with them. I’m sorry I haven’t been able to tally yet, I’ve been a little swamped at work and life, and just trying to squeeze my rides when I can.
I’ll try to tally things up before this coming weekend is over

Participant1/9/21 – Balloon. Happy hunting!
On January 9, 1793: “Blanchard made the first balloon flight in North America, on January 9, 1793, when he ascended from the Washington Prison Yard in Philadelphia and landed in Gloucester county, New Jersey. This flight, observed by President George Washington, spurred interest in ballooning in the United States.”

Everyone loves a good lizard story, right? Every year on July 4th there’s a ceremony wherein they ring this bell. Back about ten years ago, when we had just gotten our pet lizard Cooper, we decided to attend the ceremony and bring him with us. Our previous lizards had been bearded dragons, which are very mellow and tend to sit still. We weren’t used to uromastyx, which are much squirmier and also like to hide in any cave-like area they can find. On the drive over, Cooper squirmed out of my wife’s hands and crawled deep under the passenger seat, where the was no way we could reach him, and there was nothing we could do to entice or prod him to come out. I actually wound up unbolting the seat and picking it up so that we could extract the darn lizard.
