Hi everyone! First off, I just want to say thanks so much to all of you that have been playing the photo scavenger hunt. I love, love, love the creativity and thought people have put into their photo captures. I learned a lot of things, including new destinations and options for eating.
Thank you for all the time, effort, and creativity that you and Jo put into this scavenger hunt! Its popularity is a testament to how successful you’ve been in coming up with clues that were fun, manageable, and worked for people no matter where they were riding. I’ve been doing Freezing Saddles for so many years that things were starting to feel rote, but this game livened things up for me and made me look at old routes with fresh eyes. I’m still seeing bells, purple doors, and birdhouses that I’ve ridden past dozens of times before and never noticed. (The yellow Mercedes remains elusive, however.
)
Unsolicited rec, in case you’re looking for a patch company: I worked with Falls Creek Outfitters to get some custom patches made in 2019, and they were great to work with. Mary also uses them for her coffeeneuring patches.

Would you believe there’s a house with reindeer on its lawn still, in my neighborhood? CivilWarBeth calls these “albino reindeer” [emoji38][emoji1744]
Also…. I’ve been WONDERING how you’ve managed to deal with this contest, Ricky. It’s been awesome! But it’s always seemed like it must be a lotta work. Now I know what your secret is…. Thanks Jo! [emoji38][emoji1360] Love you guys!
No idea how anyone would have anything to say about the points though. They’re not on the leaderboard, so [emoji848] is there a way to know what they are? Just curious. I’m not in it for the points, though I want enough of them for you guys to feel the love for this [emoji323][emoji76]GAME [emoji3531]
And haha a homemade patch from one of my most colorful FS friends would be awesome [emoji1]Also Carol, I’d play if you got a game going after FS!
I like spring but I’m always sorry to see the end of Freezing Saddles

Nadine – a while back he shared this link – and it was in his ‘ending’ message too — but here it is again: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kgsAzaLIXN-IJMjscyNnQTNvWEp__VzgGBSkJDYrTfs/edit#gid=0

Participant3/16/21 – Panda or Danger Panda
On National Panda Day, this is going to be easy: find a panda (either the word or likeness). Fun fact: pandas are so slow because they have to be. Their diet of primarily bamboo has such little nutritive value that they spend most of their day just eating this tallest form of grass. Imagine how much more rad they’d be with a Red Bull
If you want 2 points instead of 1, submit a Danger Panda instead. What’s a Danger Panda? Check out this thread from a pointless prize I did back in ’17 that explains what qualifies:
http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showthread.php?11593-Danger-Panda-Pointless-Prize&p=154858#post154858
(All those extra points in that thread don’t count here. If you pull off a Danger Panda successfully, it’ll get you 2 points total.)BTW, RIP Pete Beers
If you’re still unsure what a Danger Panda is, it’s basically a selfie where:
- You’re riding a bike, and it’s in motion
- Both hands are off the bars
- The bike is at least partially visible
- You are looking into the camera
- The angle is from overhead(ish)

Not uploading my pic to the thread promptly after my ride almost got me.
[ATTACH=CONFIG]25167[/ATTACH]Here’s a holly tree festooned with Christmas lights in Elfreth’s Alley. As I said on Facebook, thanks drevil and JoM for all their hard work organizing and running this!

Still Christmas round here! I like how someone in the neighborhood hung up lights around their roof turret so that it looks like a tree.

The prizes are not worth my ending up in the hospital, which is what would happen. And then I wouldn’t even get the points, because I’d fail the “Not crash after taking the picture” part.

Drevil made me do it!
This is the first time I have tried to do a danger panda. I value my time outside of the hospital as well! But I prepped – I watched a fun little video on how to ride with no hands, and I went up and down my straight street with a slight uphill practicing the position that I would need for taking the photo. Finally, I pulled out my camera, which has already suffered being dropped this season and has some light crackling at the bottom of the screen – put on my fingerless gloves, and headed down the street looking for my confidence. Almost at the end of the street… and… got it! One picture taken, one achievement unlocked.
