Continuing my preference for finding as many items as possible at Westover. Once again, it’s Toby’s for ICE CREAM.

Does it count as a sub anagram if it is a picture of a bust of the man himself? (Since I’m not too concerned about the points, what do I have to lose? I found this a few blocks from the Empire Apartments.

Wow that’s so cool that you found a bust of him on his birthday! I agree w/AlanA; it’s better.
But i also think it’s got you covered for a subanagram. Because his name is on the plaque! And how is his name not an anagram of his name? Maybe it got so scrambled it landed right ways up again!

On March 9, 1454, the Italian explorer Amerigo Vespucci was born in Florence. From LOC.gov:
America is named after Amerigo Vespucci, the Italian explorer who set forth the then revolutionary concept that the lands that Christopher Columbus sailed to in 1492 were part of a separate continent. A map created in 1507 by Martin Waldseemüller was the first to depict this new continent with the name “America,” a Latinized version of “Amerigo.”

On your ride, find a word (5 letters or more) derived just from the letters of his name, snap a pic, and post it here on the forum.

    Happy hunting!

3/10/21 – Cell Phone Store OR Wired Phone OR Pay Phone (read details for breakdown)

On March 10, 1876, Alexander Graham Bell made the first successful phone call, which was to his assistant Thomas Watson, who was in the next room. According to his notebook entry, Bell recounts his utterance of the famous words:
Mr. Watson – Come here – I want to see you“— as well as his reaction when his assistant arrived: “To my delight he came and declared that he had heard and understood what I said.”

On your ride find one of the three below:

    1. For 1 point – find a cell phone store, or
    2. For 2 points – take a picture of a wired phone (caveat, it can’t be your own phone or at your own home), or
    3. For 3 points – take a picture of a wired pay phone. It must have a coin or credit card slot clearly visible.

    Happy hunting!

    3/10/21 Payphone

This one made me laugh. In 2017 I biked with a group from San Francisco to Santa Fe, NM. Somewhere on top of one of the mountain passes we encountered a full booth payphone at a rest stop. The 20-something riders with us had no idea what it was and we had to explain “calling collect” and other outdated things we did to let our parents know to come pick us up, etc. It was absolutely hilarious to observe their disbelief. And — the payphone actually had a dial tone! We had to explain that too.

    Gravelly Point – thanks Serdar!
