I wasn’t doing enough miles to justify eating a cookie, so I went with the alternative. The point is, a point is a point.

On your ride, take a selfie with a cookie that you bought during the ride (i.e., don’t bring it from home!) for 1 point. Also, let us know what kind of cookie it is. If it’s an official Girl Scout cookie, include the box in the pic for 2 points (total).
Happy hunting!
So, as some might know, I hosted my friend’s Girl Scout troop on Friday to sell cookies. It was a very good spot, because they sold a LOT of cookies that day. I bought a few boxes myself, but was also gifted some damaged boxes as a thank you. So I had about ten boxes this morning when I found out that I would get an extra point… for buying… another box of Girl Scout cookies! Okay. Twist my arm. Lol. Here I am with my friend enjoying the Dosidos peanut butter sandwich cookie that I just bought from her (not at my house! haha!) this morning.

Lucky for me, they were out of Samoas (my wife’s favorite), so I got a box of Do-si-dos (not my wife’s favorite). Unfortunately, that’s all I could fit in my jersey pocket.
In hindsight, I could have bought more and just eaten right there (since they aren’t lasting too long at home

Although the website said that Girl Scouts would be selling cookies today not far from home, they were nowhere to be found. Instead I swung by the nearby Northside Social where (in the before times) my husband and I might have stopped for coffee and cookies.
Interesting story: I grew up outside Oklahoma City and my grandparents lived outside Dallas which meant lots of road trips down I35. Roughly halfway between the two in Marietta, OK, was The Cookie Shop, a bakery outlet that sold “fresh broke cookies” from local factories. One of those factories was an official baker of Girl Scout cookies for many years. We often stopped by the store — advertised on multiple billboards next to the interstate for miles in either direction and a common tourist attraction — to pick up a bag of tasty, fresh (baked that day or the day before) cookies that just happened to be “broke” and priced at a dollar per bag. Unfortunately Keebler closed the shop in 2000 after it had thrilled kids and adults alike for 46 years.

March 7 marks the beginning of Girl Scout Week, so lets celebrate the cookie!
Fun fact: Thin Mints are the top-selling cookie, followed in descending sales order by Caramel deLites/Samoas, Peanut Butter Patties/Tagalongs, Do-Si-Dos/Peanut Butter Sandwiches, and Trefoils/Shortbread. What’s your favorite?

As an alternative, if you don’t want to go inside or buy a cookie, take a pic of a bakery where you’d buy a delicious cookie for yourself or a friend. This’ll net you a point.

My first stop this morning was at the Westover Farmers Market. Lots of delicious-looking baked goods there, but no cookies. Likewise, the Girl Scouts didn’t have their table set up outside Westover Market (well, it was 9 AM on a Sunday). So, I rode down to Best Buns, an excellent bakery and erstwhile home of HDCC. Unfortunately, cookies are an infrequent indulgence for me and I’m back on the wagon after indulging all week in my wife’s home-baked hamentaschen (a traditional cookie baked for the Jewish holiday of Purim), so I didn’t go in and order anything.

Participant3/7/21 – girl scout cookies
Anne rode with me to McLean on the promise of girl scout cookies, but they weren’t there. (I wonder if I went to the same place LisaE went to….) Anne & I were making up stories on the way back about how Drevil mighta caused a run on girl scout cookies with this contest….. Or maybe Boomer had bought them all…. [emoji38]
So I went to the Pet Smart in the Willston shopping center near my house. Anne went home with her 10 miles – it’s not a nice ride to the Pet Smart. Except it was fine today actually.
These 2 cute little girls with huge masks on were there with a mom selling girl scout cookies. They’d run outta thin mints of course, so I bought my husband his backup shortbread cookies, and then I impulse bought Anne a box. She’d declined my offer to get her cookies when we’d parted, so I didn’t know what kind she liked…. So I asked McKinley and Gwen, the cute girl scouts, what their favorites were. One of them had to think about it, but I think it was McKinley who picked the tagalogs. So I bought Anne a box of those.
I kinda forgot it was a selfie I was supposed to take – but I did think to ask the girls if I could take their picture with the cookies for my bike photo contest, so they posed for me. I bet they’re even smiling under those masks.
They’re way cuter than I am anyhow [emoji16]
The black thing in the corner is a bar mitt – I got my bike in the pic – but that’s all you can see of it after the zoom-in.

On your ride on International Womens Day – which has been celebrated for over a century – snap a pic of the name or likeness of a notable woman. Just as important, mention at least one of her social, economic, cultural or political achievements (which can be as brief or as detailed as you like).
Happy hunting!

When I rode by her house a black pickup had just failed to make the turn and took out the good sign in front. plus three police cars blocking the view. Hope you don’t mind two photos on this occasion.
