The Fe Gate is a very elegant place to eat in Dupont Circle

I managed to snag six legitimate elements in less than five miles. I was going to choose by lowest atomic number, which would’ve been the Helium Comedy Club. But, if drevil is allowing the element name within other words (and even if not), I’m going to go with this:

I came for the aluminum, but I’m staying for the insulating and leaded glass as well. For those curious, I was not riding an aluminum bike (#steelisreal). Larger image here.

What a great art ride today with Serdar, Consularrider, SophieCW and LeftyLaura. We managed to see more than 20 works of art in Reston north of the toll road. After the ride and Zocalo Tacos, Lefty Laura and I went in search of elements.

Here’s mine:

3/6/2021 I’m impressed with all of the element names people are finding. Mine is Silver from the Silver Diner in Fairfax.

I thought about Silver Diner about 45 minutes after I rode past it. And then I smacked my forehead because I had spent most of the morning somewhere near the SILVER line Metro and surely could have found a sign. This is one of those that sneaks up on you!

So many elemental examples. The one I will present here was my original target —LEAD Day School in Falls Church (an acronym for Language, Education, Arts, & Development). Other elements spotted in the wild: Helium, Platinum, Gold, Silver (https://strava.app.link/fmQO59pNpeb)

Thanks to this silly game, I had another nice visit with my brother and his wife. And, it just so happens they have a “titanium” edition car! I didn’t even bother looking for anything else on the ride, bud I did see a Roberts Oxygen truck that I could have also used.

Technically, the element is “aluminium”. It also shows up that way in the link drevil had in the post.
(Perhaps this is payback for my geese)!

Titanium, symbol Ti. It’s highly resistant to corrosion and has the highest strength to density of any metallic element. It’s used in aircraft because of its strength. A good name for the Ford Focus Titanium!

They appear to have made the “titanium” more plain looking on the newer versions.

Haha, that’s great! Rockville has something very similar. The Free State Roller Derby team plays in an industrial park with lots of scrap metal and concrete places. I’ve even been to some matches! It’s a blast.

3/6/21 – element – ALUMINUM

On my way back from meeting with Millie in MD, on my detour to the Gold’s gym I was gonna settle for (so much less exciting now that Rumi’s posted a pic of it) I remembered seeing a metal recycle dumpster next to the glass dumpster I’ve used at Quincy Park…. and I remembered it saying ALUMINUM on it….

I’m not sure why there’s a metal bin – metal is collected in curbside recycling pickup. Maybe for the park users? And maybe the nearby apartments don’t get curbside pickup? We do hafta bring glass to the bins – but I hear the recycling process works much better this way, so not complaining.

3/6/21 – Element Name: Palladium (#46) and Platinum (#78)

Turns out that HokieBeth and I both work for companies named after periodic elements of the same type of transitional metals (VIIIB) in the same column (10) of the Periodic Chart of Elements! So we met on neutral ground to exchange business cards, and solve today’s scavenger hunt challenge
