@accordioneur
@Nadine – yup, just seconds before. I had planned to site there and wait for a train, but there was a train going by as I hit the bridge so I scrambled to get my phone out and barely got the photo.March 5, 2021 at 12:41 am #1112970Kbikeva

College Park Lanes aka Bowlero. I serenaded my biking buddies, humming Ravel’s “Bolero”, made famous by the movie “10” starring Bo Derek. (They were unimpressed.)

Rumi, if you like “Bolero”, you need to listen to this podcast: https://www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/radiolab/articles/unraveling-bolero It’s absolutely fascinating!

It’s amazing what you can find in the Little Free Libraries. Especially when the little free libraries are for things other than books. In our area, we have a puzzle library and a games library. And I found a bowling game. So I set up a bowling ‘alley’. Will that work? 😮

That is so cute!! Great faces on the pins.
Did you bowl a game? I think you should get extra credit if you did!March 5, 2021 at 12:52 am #1112972AlanA

I still recall what Bo Derek liked to do while listening to Bolero. I’d best not repeat it here.
And you must listen to Beck’s Bolero if you haven’t heard it.March 5, 2021 at 1:33 am #1112973bigredboiler

Definitely needed to Google map my choices for the day. Hit a couple before sunrise.

Bowl America in Falls Church, already posted by LisaE bikesnick and accordioneur
I used to celebrate [emoji322] birthday parties here for my son when he was in Shrevewood Elementary School as they would let the kids run wild, feed them cardboard pizza, and then send them home to pass out. The parents of his buddies loved when I took them here to bounce off the walls, have some peace at home, and not have to worry about clean up. Bowl America forever!

On March 5, 1922, Dracula knockoff “Nosferatu” premiered in Berlin. Fun fact: “The estate of Bram Stoker (author of Dracula) sued for copyright infringement and won. The court ordered all existing prints of Nosferatu burned, but one purported print of the film had already been distributed around the world. This print was duplicated over the years, kept alive by a cult following, making it an example of an early cult film.”
On your ride, find a monster (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/monster – let us know which definition you are using), snap a pic of this beast, and post it in the forum.
Happy hunting!

The blue dot 🔵 is as close as I could get. I even went into the parking garage and looked in the elevator area. The board didn’t have the alley listed.

Participant3/5/21 – Monster. Definitions:
- 1b The building is unusually large for its neighborhood–six stories in an area of one- and two-story homes.
- 4 The building has bright lights shining into the houses across the street all night long.
- 3 The neighbors are threatened by it, because they believe it lowers property values–the ultimate terror in Bethesda.
My alternative to this was the “dangerous dogwalker” signs I passed. But I decided that if my impulse on seeing these signs on a deserted bike path after dark was to stop and take a photo of them, as opposed to exiting the area immediately, he probably didn’t qualify as threatening.
Then again, the way I explained my first FSLNHPP to my then wife was, “I’m going to meet a bunch of guys I don’t know in a deserted park after dark.” So maybe I don’t have the same concept of “threatening” as other people. (In my defense, I lived to tell the tale.)

Yeah, the bowling alley (Lucky Strike) is on the second floor of that building. Once the building is closed, it’s impossible to see it.
