Not one but two purple doors in Adams Morgan.

This was a nice surprise after all the stately steel- and gray-blue doors and shutters in the tonier Kalorama.

My mom lives down on the border, and the culture there cheerfully embraces bright colors as well as thriftiness. In some neighborhoods you can see the progression of one person’t leftovers to another person’s front door to someone else’s roof trim, etc. It’s quiet delightful. I live in Reston which restricts color choices to specific ‘earth tones’ so we will bike this afternoon to a less restrictive area!

I didn’t realize that purple symbolizes the color of the apocalypse. Perhaps appropriate that club Heaven and Hell and neighboring Columbia Jazz station are painted in purple.

On a grey sleety morning, it was difficult discerning doors that might be purple – until I came across this house. I found myself singing ‘Purple Rain’; did that help?

Thankfully, I have some homes in my neighborhood with purple accents. It was starting to get slick and sloppy quickly, so I was happy to call it quits after this photo.
Definitely tough to get purple to come through in a photo on an overcast and snowy morning.

I found a purple and green treehouse, a house with purple shutters, a house with a purple window that I thought was a door from a distance, and even a cool art design on the back of a house with various shades of purple incorporated.

Normally I have to give some thought to where I might find the daily photo item. Other times, I just happen to stumble on the item. When I saw that I needed a purple house I knew immediately where I needed to ride. In a county with a lot of HOA’s purple houses are definitely not the norm. Also, I usually don’t remember where I have seen something generic like features on a particular house. However, this house always stands out to me because it is dead ahead at a T-intersection in a neighborhood I frequently travel through and I always think about how the house is so much different than the other houses in the neighborhood. This house is in Fairfax City.

At the risk of losing a perfectly good pointless point, I’m going to offer the following as creative interpretation that doesn’t require photoshop:

The call was for a purple house. It did not specify that the house must be a house for humans. Thus, I offer this purple tree painted on the side of a parking garage where birds nest in the spaces.

After all, it’s just a point. Plus, all the photos I took of houses with purple-ish shutters didn’t look purple once I got home. Purple really is in the eye of the beholder when there are HOA restrictions on color!
