Participant1/6/21 – Small Business that features beans. Happy hunting!
Not only is it National Bean Day, it’s Rowan Atkinson’s (aka Mr Bean) birthday! Small business definitely means no Chipotle, Starbucks, Dunkin’ Donuts, and Baja Fresh. Again, it’d be cool if it’s a place you actually like – and if you’d want to – explain why.

Spotted this flamingo on my ride tonight.

Edit: don’t know why it posted sideways and I have 1% battery! Just enough to post this maybe, not enough to fix it.
Edit to the edit: Righting the wrong did not work. Possibly made it worse.

It’s gotten kinda spooky. Lake Artemesia had over a 100 on the surface.

1/6/2021 — beans. Abyssinia Market in Alexandria. The owner suffered a despicable attack by a man who refused to wear a mask inside her store. The subsequent outpouring of community support restored some of my faith in humanity, though. I was glad to have an excuse to stop by and lend my support by quaxing.
Bean connection: Abyssinia serves “Ethiopian locally roasted yergacheffe coffee,” according to its Facebook page. I’m not a coffee drinker, so one of the Forum’s resident coffee snobs will have to tell me what that means.

I tried to figure out the connection between beans and a beauty salon, but my search came up blank. Fun fact — four ancient Roman families have bean names (Cicero, Lentulus, Fabius, and Piso).January 6, 2021 at 2:45 pm #1108156CBGanimal

Spain doesn’t really do coffee bean coffee places…they sell some at stores but a small selection. So I picked this place because Sierra and I visited here one afternoon on our way back from a College tour. We had Cocido Casero which is a brothish soup with Garbanzo Beans in it. It was really good! I would have shown you more but today is a Holiday (3 Kings Day) and everything is closed.

Thinking of Pete Beers this morning. Honoring him w/Cafe Kindred…the normal stop after his 6am hill rides. Get all kinds of coffees & espresso with great dishes to fuel you home after a morning ride.

District Taco has grown from its food truck origins into a chain of a dozen or so physical locations, but I still consider it a small local business. Yes, I like it, and the reason is in its name – tacos!

1/6/21 I did not dilly-DAL-ly in finding some delicious vegetarian dishes featuring beans. Small Indian restaurant in Burke.

Ethiopia [emoji1098] is the birthplace of coffee, the arabica bean in particular… all sources globally can be tied back genetically to this region of the world. Even the word “coffee” is a derivative of the Kaffa Region in Ethiopia, which is recognized by the United Nations as an UNESCO biosphere reserve because of its coffee connection.
Here is a pic of my hand holding the precious beans while a local expert points to one of the 3 remaining heritage coffee hotspots in Ethiopia that I went to during the course of my work in late 2019, before we knew about the looming pandemic, to help launch an organic wild coffee brand with local coffee farmers.
