The word peace in a poster. The poster is located at Black Lives Matter Plaza.

This is one where I really didn’t have an idea of where I was going to find it. I thought my only hope was to find one of those “Coexist” bumper stickers that have all the symbols of all the major religions and the peace sign. Unfortunately, it was a case of reverse Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon – those darned things seem ubiquitous, but when I went out looking for one they were nowhere to be found. I remembered having spotted one on the ride where I was looking for stars, and even approximately where I had seen it, and so I headed in that direction. Just as I was approaching the area where I was going to start searching in earnest, I spotted this flag. Lo and behold – Both the word and the footprint of the American chicken!

    “Peace” in Hebrew = Shalom
(Yes, I know shalom carries so much more meaning than just peace, but I couldn’t find a peace sign.)

But how would I have known that? I don’t know her, I don’t follow her on Strava, and it was just a view from a balcony. Remember, there are some of us playing who aren’t part of the original crowd. We don’t necessarily have the intel you have.

On my way to a church with Peace in its name, I saw this on someone’s fence.

2/21/2021 — the word “peace” in any language. Here’s my bike visiting the mural “Education, Not Incarceration” at the Tenants and Workers United Building in Alexandria. The artist goes by MasPaz (“more peace” in Spanish), and my photo shows the part of the mural that has his signature. But the whole mural is very cool and worth a visit.

Being from the People’s Republic of Montgomery County was a distinct disadvantage the day that “Make America Great Again” signs were one of the possibilities. But today it was a definite advantage. Aside from this mural, I found a sign in the same shopping mall with a number of inspirational phrases, including both the word “Peace” and the peace sign. (That one is on my Strava ride, but we’re only allowed one here, and I figured the mural was more in line with the overall theme.)

Whew! I had just about given up when I found this on Thurston Rd. about a mile from the end of today’s ride. Thanks to an awesome treehouse in the yard, I slowed down and saw this. Yay!! What a great way to end a ride!

British designer and artist Gerald Holtom introduced the peace symbol to an anti-nuclear pacifist organization on February 21, 1958. It represents the letters “N” and “D” (in semaphore) for “Nuclear Disarmament”.

On your ride, find the peace symbol (not the Mercedes logo!) or the word “peace”, which can be in any language.

    Happy hunting!

The NVA Returned Peace Corp Volunteers maintain a section of the Reston pathway system, evidently. No time to explore further afield because my #1 task today was a trip to Woodbridge to get my 2nd Covid vaccinations shot! [emoji16] Longish wait but it’s done!!

I found both the symbol and the word – in different places – but I thought I’d include the word for this one. It’s on a house in the 200 block of N. Barton Street in Arlington, and is flanked by three other houses, each with the words HOPE, JOY, and LOVE – all which light up like this one. It’s great to see all four of them.

This house in Riverdale Park sports a peace sign. And it’s right next to another house in Riverdale Park which ALSO sports a peace sign. Just one house fit in my photo. :)
