2/18/21 – Full EV
Even Teslas were hard to come by for me today (but not impossible).
The bike rack; yes, that was impossible for me today.Luckily, the city of Arlington bought some Nissan Leaf EVs. Too bad they aren’t hip enough to have bike racks (guess I would need to live in Boulder or Portland to find that on a city vehicle).

If they were really hip they wouldn’t buy vehicles at all — just cargo e-bikes.

drevil, I feel sorry for the headache you’ll have after scoring today’s hunt! For example, the Chevy Volt is a plug-in hybrid and the Niro is a hybrid. Neither are EVs.
Yeah, I know

When did the ‘ask’ change? I operated all day on the idea that no hybrids were allowed. I could have had any number of those. sigh
At about 4pm. I sometimes can’t tell if I made the hunt too hard or too easy. I was really busy at work today and didn’t have much time for breaks to check the forum, Facebook, or outside, but I did see it looked sketchy. Obviously, I didn’t want people to get hurt looking for particular types of cars, so I made it easier. To anyone upset about this midday change, sorry.

Participant2/18/21 – Full Electric Car (Hybrids OK!)
Today’s ride was mostly about avoiding cars since they were slipping around more than I was on a fat tire bike.
I think the rules changed after I rode, but thankfully I took a couple different shots. I couldn’t remember if the rules were for an “electric car” or “electric vehicle,” so hoping for the latter I photographed a couple ebikes, a scooter, and the metro. But then I came home and saw that “car” was specified. And now, apparently, hybrids are okay. I have a hybrid electric with a bike rack on it, but since I can’t use my own, here’s someone else’s smart car I saw on my ride:

ParticipantWhen did all these rules change?
I went out in the snow after work scouring the local garages’ electric charging stations hoping to find one. Now I’m home, unsuccessful, only to discover I coulda just taken a picture of a plain old Prius.
I see drevil is feeling a bit contrite. For his penance he can award me my 2 Mercedes points as requested.

Not upset, just confused. I appreciate you putting the game on at all.

Can count on a DC cab to be a hybrid! Most of the time they are a Prius but this one is a Rav4.

Participant2/19/21 – Planet(s) – likeness or name of a specific planet or the word “planet”
On February 19, 1473, Nicolaus Copernicus was born. He was a mathematician and astronomer during the Renaissance that proposed the heretical idea that Earth was not the center of the universe, but instead it was the sun.
On your ride, find anything related to one of our 9 planets (yes, I’m including Pluto), whether it be a likeness or the name of the planet. However, if you take a picture of dirt and call it Earth, you’ll get exactly .25 points
Let us know which planet is in your photo.

EDIT at 10:18 AM
Sorry I keep waffling. Pick a specific planet OR use “planet”. It’s all good for 1 point.
*****************************************************Happy hunting!

This lists the Kia Niro as an EV https://www.caranddriver.com/shopping-advice/g32463239/new-ev-models-us/

They have both hybrid and EV editions of the Niro, just to keep it confusing.

2/18/21 – Full Electric Car (Hybrids OK!)
EDIT: Hybrids like the Prius are OK for today’s hunt.
On National Battery Day, which is February 18, take a picture of a fully electric or hybrid car.
I know this could go all over the place, so a few rules:
- It CAN be a hybrid (which rely on both battery and gas), e.g., the Toyota Prius, Ford Fusion. Hybrid cars often have the word around the model name
- It has to be a car that people can ride in on a highway, so no little radio control (RC) cars or golf carts
- It can’t be at a dealership
- It can’t be your own
Point scoring for this hunt:
- 1 point for any partially electric/partially gas hybrid cars like the Toyota Prius, or
- 1.5 points for a Tesla (since they are so popular in our area), or
- 2 points for any fully electric car that isn’t a Tesla
- An extra two points if this hybrid/electric car has a bike rack on it (must be clearly visible in the pic)
Happy hunting!
For example, this Tesla with a bike rack would garner you 3 points (1 for car, +2 for bike rack), and a bunch of salivating bike nerds.

Electric Car 2/18/21 I found it being charged in a garage. Don’t know what type of car it is.

It’s a Prius, so a hybrid but not an all electric. (I found this out the hard way, when I posted one and drevil had to tell me it was a Prius rather than a Tesla.) In any event, given the change in rules, it works to give you a point for the day.

Participant2/18 – Electrical Nikolai Tesla/Thomas Edison Contraption
I’m doing awful at this game. First I didn’t get the pic of the bird feeder in my own back yard soon enough and tonight I missed the Electric Car by a few minutes (I think) and uploaded even later. But it’s a fun one to know about at Audi Stadium. The lit sign in front of it that is illegible with the IPhone says something like “100% Electric”.
I also missed Planets for today when I #LondonBridge (d) at the Air & Space museum and it was so dark there and under construction anyway. Maybe later!

Mercury. I’d actually seen a Web page discussing a development called The Mercury at Wildwood. However, when I looked at the address for the development, it was a Bethesda Bagels. I’m not sure whether the idea of the development got abandoned or what. However, I was not inclined to hang around too long to investigate after a homeless guy:- Approached me,
- Took off his mask,
- After I hastily backed six feet away, asked me about what I was doing,
- Complimented my Lumos helmet (which has lights on it), and
- Told me I had a nice butt.
Yeah, I’m pretty determined, but that last (in a deserted shopping mall in the middle of the night) was enough to discourage even me.

Sooooo I posted something to my neighborhood listserv asking if anyone know of any electric cars in the hood. 2 neighbors came through with 3 cars. I found 1. After that I only looked at what kinda car if it had a rack. I think people probably removed their bike racks for the snow forecast.
@Kbikeva 208153 wrote:
I posted to mine too and … crickets. The one neighbor who used to have an electric car gave it up and went back to Subaru. The other neighbor who has a Tesla is away. Probably someplace warm.
Apparently, I win the “most helpful neighbors” prize. When I posted on NextDoor, one neighbor offered her BMW i3 (albeit with no bike rack). Another told me that someone he knew had an EV with a bike rack, and gave me enough information so I was able to find the vehicle in question. (It turned out the vehicle with a bike rack was a hybrid, not a full EV, but the bike rack made it worth using anyway.)
