I sympathize with you. I do not have a car free lifestyle but I just don’t pay much attention to them unless they’re in my lane and trying to kill me. So trying to figure out where to find an electric car, compounded by weather, was a FAIL for me. I just went out again to see if I could locate any at the charging stations in my area and again, nada. While out, I observed that many, many streets are still not plowed in Reston but people are getting out driving and slipping and sliding, so the safer course was to come home. So why do I feel like such a loser?
I consider to you be almost sane (after all, you did actually go out)! I didn’t even think of trying to ride in this mess. My life isn’t worth a few silly points for some silly game. And, all my bikes are road bikes, so it really isn’t an option.

Participant2/18/21 – full electric car (no hybrids)
In addition to not being tuned into cars, I don’t SEE very well…. (Glaucoma since age 26 – so when I don’t say hi to you on the trail it’s 150% because I can’t see that you’re my friend rather than a random cyclist. Say hi first! My ears are pretty good – I’ve recognized a number of my cycling buddies by voice!) Oh and today I knew the glasses would also be meh….
Sooooo I posted something to my neighborhood listserv asking if anyone know of any electric cars in the hood. 2 neighbors came through with 3 cars. I found 1. After that I only looked at what kinda car if it had a rack. I think people probably removed their bike racks for the snow forecast.
But this is a Kia Niro EV!

I posted to mine too and … crickets. The one neighbor who used to have an electric car gave it up and went back to Subaru. The other neighbor who has a Tesla is away. Probably someplace warm.

Thanks Alan. My trusty Surly Straggler gets me through almost everything. There is no way I would have taken my true road bike out today! We can all hope for better weather tomorrow or a kinder “find this” item.

No idea about the original challenge. I had a vague recollection of no rentals allowed for this, but who knows?
I do know that I’ve dreamed about the scavenger hunt when I’ve been able to catch the next day’s task before bed. Pretty sure I ran into Rimas and someone else while looking for something (don’t remember what) — truly the stuff of pure fantasy.
Don’t worry, Rimas is missing out on the great weather, by hunkering down in the Florida sunshine.

Participant2/18/21 – Full EV
Even Teslas were hard to come by for me today (but not impossible).
The bike rack; yes, that was impossible for me today.Luckily, the city of Arlington bought some Nissan Leaf EVs. Too bad they aren’t hip enough to have bike racks (guess I would need to live in Boulder or Portland to find that on a city vehicle).

Participant2/18 – Electric car
Alleyways (and the MBT) were too treacherous to search, but fortunately found a Tesla in the Whole Foods garage on H NE that used to have nice indoor bike parking…

2/18/21 – Full Electric Car (Hybrids OK!)
EDIT: Hybrids like the Prius are OK for today’s hunt.
So…. if anyone’s following the Facebook thread on this, you’ll know that I found something earlier, but just haven’t posted yet. I found the same electric car with a bike rack that Rumi found.. but I’m willing to take one fewer point, because this Metro bus is a hybrid (that green insignia on the side)… and it has a bike rack on it. Lol.
Besides, I told the bus driver right after I took his picture about the scavenger hunt and got to bring some random joy to his life, too. Haha.

Participant2/18/22 electric vehicle with bike rack. I followed Rumi’s breadcrumbs.

WHAT! Hybrids are OK???? NOW you tell me – LOL! No worries. I finally found a full electric vehicle – a Chevy Volt. We came upon a car in a driveway that was plugged in, but the car was covered. I hope the residents weren’t looking out the window when we surreptitiously lifted the cover on the back to verify the type of vehicle. There was a TESLA I found too, but more points for the volt. I also found two Tesla HOUSE batteries for solar power that I was going to try to use if I couldn’t find a vehicle, but luckily, I didn’t have to resort to that.
UPDATE – I just found out that the Chevy Volt is a hybrid, while the Chevy Bolt is fully electric. Darn! So I am updating my post with the Tesla I found instead. Oh well! I wasn’t sure this was a Tesla at first until I saw the symbol on the hubcap.

OK, since the rules have changed to allow hybrids (smh), I retraced my steps from this morning’s ride and snagged this Kia Niro just up the block.

2/17 Bird House
This is at the Charles Will memorial park in Del Ray on Dewitt Ave. There are a few dozen birdhouses in the trees here but someone was mowing (why?) and no birds around.

I LOVE that park! I discovered it last month when it was a location for a hidden #calvinball. I need to visit it again. (But I think it is the Charles HILL park.)

drevil, I feel sorry for the headache you’ll have after scoring today’s hunt! For example, the Chevy Volt is a plug-in hybrid and the Niro is a hybrid. Neither are EVs.
I updated my post with a Tesla once I found out a Chevy VOLT was a hybrid.

ParticipantWhen did the ‘ask’ change? I operated all day on the idea that no hybrids were allowed. I could have had any number of those. sigh
