It took scouring the back alleys of DC to find something that wasn’t a Tesla. Which isn’t at all suspicious when taking pictures of cars at 1 am…
My persistence paid off with a Chevy Volt. I also came across a BMW i3, but that picture wasn’t as good. Alas, no bike racks on any of them.
Update: with @josh doing the research showing the Volt isn’t fully electric, that gets disqualified. It also turns out the i3 has an optional gas engine, and since I couldn’t determine if that particular car had the option, I’ll fall back to the picture of a pair of recharging Teslas.

I’m putting this here for now–just a Tesla, no bike rack–because my finding this one was already a contender for the Last Mile Prize. But I may edit it in the morning if I can find something better. This is the third time we’ve been asked to find a car. I have lived a car-free lifestyle for years now, and literally cannot recognize any car other than a VW Beetle or a Corvette by sight. So car hunts are challenging at the best of times–I’m having to get close enough to each car to read the name of it, then look it up on my phone. And the day when I’m having to go out just after midnight, that sort of behavior is particularly likely to catch the attention of security guards. I was stopped by two of them tonight, and actually warned off the premises by one of the two.

This was a rough one with the current snowfall, as I’m sure you all experienced. I was scared off by the signs on the shared residential parking garages, and I’m sure most of the “nice” cars are parked in the garages of expensive houses in Center City (I didn’t even contemplate trying to make it out to the burbs). I wanted to find a Fisker Karma that I’ve seen twice, but I’m sure that’s hidden away somewhere. More importantly, apparently it’s a hybrid, which I didn’t even know until now.

I covered 6+ miles (slowly), and all I found was a Tesla and a Chevy Volt. Obviously, I’m claiming the latter right now. I might head back out depending on conditions and look for a bike rack equipped one.
UPDATE: just realized that the Volt is a hybrid, but the Bolt is a full EV — guess I’m going back to the Tesla
cvcalhoun wrote:…literally cannot recognize any car other than a VW Beetle or a Corvette by sightJust a heads up, I’m pretty sure your pic is of a Toyota Prius of some type (not a Tesla), and I don’t think they have any fully-electric models, i.e. your find isn’t worth any points.

Bike racks on the back of cars don’t seem to exist much here…alot get put on top of cars or inside cars! On the other hand there are many electric cars especially in Madrid!
I found a KIA Soul with a roof rack to potentially carry a bike!

2/18/2021 — fully electric car. Here’s a Chevy Bolt EV. I’m sure I didn’t look suspicious at all, riding slowly through the neighborhood just after midnight, squinting at every car while trying to see the make and model.

I’m putting this here for now–j̶u̶s̶t̶ ̶a̶ ̶T̶e̶s̶l̶a̶ [no longer a Tesla–see updates, below], n̶o̶ ̶b̶i̶k̶e̶ ̶r̶a̶c̶k̶-̶-̶ [now with bike rack–see third update below] because my finding this one was already a contender for the Last Mile Prize. But I may edit it in the morning if I can find something better. This is the third time we’ve been asked to find a car. I have lived a car-free lifestyle for years now, and literally cannot recognize any car other than a VW Beetle or a Corvette by sight. (As witnessed by the fact that drevil tells me the first photo I uploaded wasn’t a Tesla, so I had to try again.) So car hunts are challenging at the best of times–I’m having to get close enough to each car to read the name of it, then look it up on my phone. And the day when I’m having to go out just after midnight, that sort of behavior is particularly likely to catch the attention of security guards. I was stopped by two of them tonight, and actually warned off the premises by one of the two.
First Update: drevil tells me the first one I posted was a Prius, not a Tesla. I have now replaced it with an actual Tesla.

I think I’ve seen someone else mention this difficulty. If you’re just using the web UI (i.e. not Tapatalk), you can “Go advanced”, then “Manage Attachments”. That’ll open up a new tab, and at the bottom, you should see thumbnails of the images you’ve attached.
Click the “X” on the upper right hand corner, then “Done”, and you’ll be returned to your original tab. That should remove the old, now-unused attached images. All you need to do then is “Save changes”. Hooray for unintuitive user experiences!
Second Update: I found a BMW i3! And thanks to Josh’s instructions, I was able to replace the second photo instead of deleting the whole post and starting over.
Third Update: Now that hybrids are allowed, I found a Volt with a bike rack, which beats my previous non-Tesla EV without one.

ParticipantI could swear that when I first read today’s challenge it said no Teslas, and so I went out this morning hunting for the BMW i3 that used to live on my street (but wasn’t there – I think they’ve traded it in for a different car). Now I see lots of people posting Tesla pics, and the rules indeed allow Teslas. Huh. Maybe I was half asleep when I read it?

Yeah, drevil told me that after I posted. (When I posted, I thought it was a Tesla–I did mention that I can’t tell one car from another!) I then posted a Tesla. However, I couldn’t find a way to delete the Prius from my post, so I deleted the post and made a new post with the Tesla.
Oh, and I sympathize on the Volt. I took a whole lot of pictures of one last night before realizing that it didn’t meet the criteria.
However, I now have a lead on a BMWi, so I’m going to head over there this afternoon. (Fortunately given the sleet, it’s not far.) If that pans out, I’ll delete the Tesla.

No idea about the original challenge. I had a vague recollection of no rentals allowed for this, but who knows?
I do know that I’ve dreamed about the scavenger hunt when I’ve been able to catch the next day’s task before bed. Pretty sure I ran into Rimas and someone else while looking for something (don’t remember what) — truly the stuff of pure fantasy.

It appears Rumi had the same hallucination I did.

I sympathize with you. I do not have a car free lifestyle but I just don’t pay much attention to them unless they’re in my lane and trying to kill me. So trying to figure out where to find an electric car, compounded by weather, was a FAIL for me. I just went out again to see if I could locate any at the charging stations in my area and again, nada. While out, I observed that many, many streets are still not plowed in Reston but people are getting out driving and slipping and sliding, so the safer course was to come home. So why do I feel like such a loser?
