02/15/21 – Skeleton

d10117b6f8835daa3d958f53a2bd9edb.jpg

Found this while riding around this morning in new2me territory of Monroe County, PA.

It was in “Batman’s” front yard, as he came charging out shirtless, holding a beer, with Bat [emoji1660] tats on both shoulders, and barked, “waddaya want?!”

I explained why I needed a skeleton shot today, and that I thought it was doubly cool that these skeletons where on a cargo bike! Batman said that the bike was his uncle’s who brought it back from Viet Nam after the war, that the front rack was a B-B-Q grill, and that it still works. I said that I’d like to come back 2C it once the snow melted, to which he said “cool.”

Also learned that the best BBQ wings in town are across the street from his crib, at the Shipyard Saloon, which looks to have some cool yard art. Will have to go back for that!

Kudos to Boomer2U for organizing DC Murals Rides last year! That’s how I knew this morning where to hunt a skeleton.

P.S.

I don’t know why the controls on the forum posts often just don’t work – like the management of photos. Sometimes it works flawlessly (well, not flawlessly because the upload seems to work just by checking the photo boxes in your added photos – no dragging or pushing “Go” necessary. But other times all manner of hitting buttons does nothing and I end up wasting half an hour or more. I’ve had these problems with the forum for years. I rate the thread “poor” for that reason, not the thread idea – that’s excellent – but the forum controls being all wanky. Facebook is 1000% easier to post. Maybe we need ads on the forum to get some revenue. And now I see that in my second picture the word is almost illegible, while it was fine when I uploaded it.

Here is how I have always uploaded photos. There might be other and better ways, but this has always worked. One caveat, you can only upload one photo at a time.

1. I access the forum using a web browser, usually Safari on my iPad, but also Edge or Firefox on my PC
2. After logging in and opening a post, select the photo icon on the menu bar

3. The insert image dialog box pops up, make sure “From Computer” is highlighted and click on “Choose File”

4. The Choose File dialog pops up, select one of the options, I usually select “Photo Library”

5. If you select “Photo Library” thumbnails of your images will be displayed, select the photo you want to post.

6. After selecting the photo, the Insert Image dialog box will reappear. This time click on “Insert Image”. Wait patiently and your image will appear in your post.

Okay, I admit it, I got a little desperate on this one. The only skeletons I know about anywhere close to Bethesda are in the National Museum of Health and Medicine in Silver Spring, and it’s closed due to the pandemic. But I found someone on NextDoor selling a top with skeletons on it. It seemed rude just to ask to come take a picture of it, and it wasn’t that expensive, so I ended up biking out to the Twinbrook Library and buying it.

On what may or may not be a related topic, anyone want a women’s size medium scrubs top with skeletons on it? Free to good (or bad, for that matter) home. ;)

No skeletons in my neighborhood, alas. But I was confident that I should be able to find a lottery sign on the local 7-11. I did, but the lettering was TINY so I zoomed in for this collage image.

2/15/2021 St. Skeletor’s Day

This house always has skeletons decorating the front yard that changes with the calendar. It is always entertaining to ride past this house. This skeleton can be found in Fairfax near WT Woodson HS on Laurel Street.

I don’t think these skeletons know that it is St. Skeletor’s Day!! Looks like they have been hitting the bottle. ♥️

2/15/2021 — “St Skeletor’s Day” subanagram. Like CaseyKane50, I also visited Whiskey and Oyster. I’ve never tried either their whiskeys or their oysters, but their Taco Tuesday specials are great.

2/15/21 – St Skeletor’s Day subanagram or Human Skeleton

I knew of a nearby neighborhood that had a skeleton up LONG past the fall and winter holidays so I hoped it was still there. As I came around the corner I was thrilled because although it was next to the garage ready to be put away, it was still visible! I snapped my photo and feeling smug, went on to ride and collect a parkfinder and publicartfinder. Arrived at a DINER (of course) to meet a friend for lunch. After we chatted a while she asked about my Freezing Saddles goal for the day. I pulled up the description and my photo. She asked, “Um…that’s not a human skeleton.” Aghast, I reviewed the details and DARN IT, drevil had fiendishly restricted the skeleton to human only! Argh!!!

Fortunately, she’s very smart and asked, “Why don’t you run over to our favorite bike shop? I’m sure the bike fitter has a skeleton.” I figured it would be a spine or a knee or ankle, but I was willing to go over there anyway because
a) it was less than a mile the opposite direction of my homeward travel and
b) it’s a bike shop, DUH!

And sure enough, thanks to Marcy, and to master fitter Clovis and the great bike shop Green Lizard — here is my skeleton! And I still got home before it rained.
