2/12/21 – ox or other bovine

Got the idea from Boomer, whose pic reminded me I’d seen something like it at Ted’s Montana Grill.

I went right by Crystal City Waterpark to get there. Maybe this summer we’ll have Fridays at the Fountain there again! [emoji3531]

    2/13/21 – Diner

On February 13, 1960, the first of the Nashville Sit-ins occurred to non-violently protest segregation in the South. It eventually lead to six downtown stores opening their lunch counters to black customers for the first time.

On your ride, find a diner – preferably one you like – take a snapshot of it and post it here in the forum. For an extra bonus point, have both the word “Diner” and at least part of your bike in it.

Please be careful out there if it gets slippery!

    Happy hunting! :)

I really looked very hard to find an ox, or a photo or an ox, or a real cow, or an oxygen tank, or.. or.. then I remembered that I lived near a street called Fox. :)

In 2021, the Chinese Zodiac sign is the Ox, and it begins on February 12.

On your ride, find the likeness of an ox (or any bovine) or the letter combo “ox” out in the wild. If you are seeking the letters “ox”, they just have to be beside each other in that order, but they can be within another word.

    Happy hunting! :)

    2/12 – Ox (or Bovine)

Since I had a mental short circuit and didn’t think to go by the Union Market vendor that sells ox tails (among other things) until I was almost home…here’s a picture of a Galludet Bison logo. Since bison are bovine…26d6977ad525be393b317e3a33f521d4.jpg

I dunno, native American persuasion sounds more like a bison. I think buffalo are more Old World

Your nomenclature is more precise for the large, even-hoofed (or “toed”) ungulates of the genus Bovinae endemic to North America, commonly referred to as the American buffalo or simply “buffalo” … according to the reference cited.

Doesn’t it constantly amaze you what you see once you’re directed to look for something? Who would have ever noticed that before? Nice find!

Yes, my head seems to be on a swivel looking for today’s challenge. This has been a fun game and has definitely added miles to my rides.

    2/11/21 – Ox

After striking out in Chinatown, where there was surprising no Year of the Ox iconography, I settled for another animal

I’m not sure why I felt like I should be in this photo, but the heart wants what it wants. Found a rock, moved it, spent too long aiming/balancing my phone, triggered the timer, and hustled up the icy/snowy steps to the bull.

This whole statue/monument is in the Eakins Oval in front of the Art Museum.

Your pic is awesome. Also I’m totally stealing the line “the heart wants what it wants” to use at home, for when Alan expects me to be logical [emoji38]

Also here’s a picture of my homemade pizza. I’m never up for making pizza on a day when I’m doing a real ride -but after pizza day I wanted some, so I made it yesterday. Forgot to take a pix when it was just out of the oven, but here are tonight’s leftovers.

I make it on a cookie sheet. I woulda said I do that because it’s more pizza that way – but actually it’s exactly the way my father made pizza, so I’m probably programmed to make it that way. [emoji57]

Since the ox was hard to find, you could have settled for a zebu or a nilgai or a tamaraw or a gaur.

    Or a banteng.

Like yesterday’s theater sadness, I found today’s dearth of celebrational decorations for Lunar New Year to be very sad. We rode past more than one Chinese food place – and nothing. I LOVE doing these searches, but they’re highlighting what we’re missing due to the darn virus!

So I Googled “Lamborghini Bethesda” and it came up with Euro Motorcars–but they sell Mercedes, not Lamborghini. I checked their lot to see whether anyone coming to look for a Mercedes was driving a Lamborghini. There were Lexuses and BMWs, but no Lamborghinis.

WowCow was permanently closed. And the other ice cream shops in the area had pictures of ice cream, not cows.

I thought of Chick-fil-A. But the local one is in a mall, and I didn’t want to walk through a mall.

I finally decided I’d have to just choose between Matchbox and Equinox, and took pictures of both. And then on my way home, I saw All Fired Up, which is a DIY ceramics place. I saw lots of other animals there. And then checking further, I found this cutie:

    [ATTACH=CONFIG]23972[/ATTACH]

And of course, after finding this, I saw a barber shop on my way home with a bunch of stuffed animals, including a goat, wearing masks. But I wasn’t 100% sure whether a goat was considered bovine, and besides, I liked this one.

When I saw today’s challenge I immediately thought, “How sad that Mad Fox Brewery is gone”. True, it has been replaced by similar brewpub Solace Outpost, but the thought brought with it the whole COVID weight of not being able to use my daily photo find as an excuse to just stop by a pub for a pint.

Sticking with “fOX” as my target for the day, I found a park in Vienna with a Fox name and thought about going there, and I also considered visiting my friend Fox, whose 15 minutes of fame was being in seminal 1980’s DC punk band United Mutation, but instead I settled on this other nearby fOX-named business.

Oh no, I almost forgot to post. Hunting the wilds of Reston, and Herndon, I was going to take a picture of a fox, Fox Mill, Fox Mill Elementary, Fox Glen, fox fox for ox, West ox, or any other ox Road I could find; but KBikeVA saved me. I present to you a beautiful artwork from Artspace, Herndon.
