2/10/21 – 5 or 6 point Star (but not on American flag)
I had the intention of keeping it simple and stopping by Starbucks on the way to the pharmacy to pick up Rx. Then I rode by a VA Civil War Trail sign with 3 stars and a bugle. That would work, but those aren’t very unique around here. Instead I came back around to capture a star incorporated into a fence art display at the local elementary school. It was by far the coolest star I saw on my errand run today.

“Now we’re playing on my turf,” I thought as I read today’s photo challenge. After all, I’m of the six pointed star variety of people. But it turns out that in Northern Virginia they’re hard to find in the wild. My synagogue doesn’t have any on its exterior, and from what I could tell from Google, neither do any of the (few) other nearby ones in Northern Virginia. I thought about heading to Sixth & I, which has a lovely stained glass example, but decided to instead settle for a five-pointed star, which are abundant. DC United and NE Patriots bumper stickers on cars. Decorative stars on houses. Air Force logos. Five pointed stars are everywhere. I grabbed some five pointer photos, but kept my eyes open while I continued my ride.
Finally, I stumbled upon a six-pointed star on, of all things, a sign advertising dog grooming. Success! Further along in my ride I spotted one of those “Coexist” bumper stickers that has the symbols of all the major religions. That would have provided a more legit mogen david, but I decided to stick with my doggie daycare sign.
Oh, and as I arrived home I noticed a five pointer just around the corner from my house – a Turkish flag sticker on a car. Good thing I didn’t see that on my way out, or I might not have gotten much of a ride in at all.

Nice opening. Made me want to read more. Now I’m wondering why the doggy day care has a six pointed star. There’s gotta be a backstory on that! Thanks for making me smile.

ParticipantLike Accordioneur I was thinking it would be cool to post a pic of a star of David. Well good thing others did because I wad tired and didn’t wanna leave my group ride to detour to the synagogue. (Didn’t even occur to me it might not have one! That woulda pissed me off. Yes I’m Jewish – but not the synagogue attending kinda Jew.)
Luckily my sweet ride buddies kept their eyes open and helped me find a nice 5 pointed star. Good thing others find nice – what’s it called? Mogen Davids? Cvcalhoun is educating a number of us today [emoji38][emoji1360][emoji1364]

All my memories of where I see stars on my ride fell flat, but I stopped by 2Fifty and they fixed me up – again!

On February 10, 2017, Adam Levine – frontman of Maroon 5 – received the 2601st star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. (I didn’t realize there were so many?!)
On your ride, find a star, as long as it’s not on an American flag. On this hunt, we don’t want the word, we want the shape, but lets limit it to ones with 5 or 6 points only.
Happy hunting!

I actually had the same experience–both being one of the six-pointed star people and being surprised to realize that so many of the area synagogues didn’t have any on them. And I’m in Montgomery County, which has a synagogue every other block. (Okay, not really, but there are a lot of them.) However, I was pretty sure a synagogue named Magen David would, and I was right.

Directional sign outside the Postal Square Building in DC. Today marks 11 months since I’ve been inside (after 18.5 years of being there most workdays…)

Brookland bridge stars! There used to be more before the bridge reconstruction, but these were preserved for the time being. Painted by neighborhood kids.

It was my first time there and it will probably be my favorite, but remember, I’m from New Jersey and there is killer pizza there so it takes a lot to make it my favorite. They have a video game when the insides open again.
Laura, where in DC area can I try New Jersey pizza? I am craving now.

Oh Nadine, you make me laugh. Mogen David is a sweet wine of questionable quality. Magen David is the Star of David (Shield of David).
And I’m not of the six pointed star persuasion, but I might have done a bit of googling plus memories of cheap college wine.
