Lena’s Wood-Fired Pizza and Tap. Good pizza and a decent selection of beers. If you haven’t filled up on pizza and beer, suggest you order their cinnamon sugar dusted apple-ricotta doughnut holes. Lena’s is on Braddock Road and Mount Vernon Avenue, near the Potomac Yard and the Braddock Road Metro. Lots of outdoor seating.Someone (ahem CaseyKane50) recently introduced me to those donuts, & they are amazing! It will be a struggle NOT to order them every time I go here. [emoji39]

Two unrelated DC friends who were born and raised in Italy vouch for Menomale’s wood-fired Neapolitan pizza, and this native Jersey girl likes it a lot, too. The owner is from Naples. The original location is in Brookland. A second just opened in NoMa (https://dc.eater.com/2021/2/4/22264883/menomale-salumeria-pizza-restaurant-italian-deli-opening-noma). Alas, it’s closed on Tuesdays, but with homemade sourdough pizza dough in the fridge, I still got to celebrate pizza day!

Pizza ∏ (because it has a mathematical symbol in the name)

Every year, National Pizza Day falls on February 9. Fun fact, the domain “pizza.com” was purchased in 1994 by the owner of a software company for $20. Fourteen years later, he sold the domain for 2.6 million dollars! I just checked the URL, and there’s nothing even there right now. I guess they had a hard time recouping the money from buying the URL?
Anyways, on your ride, capture the storefront, a pie, or a slice of these doughy, cheesy, saucy slabs of heaven and post it here. The only catch with this hunt is that it can’t be Pizza Hut or Domino’s. Besides, if your favorite pizza is from either of those, try exploring other spots!
If you don’t mind revealing your favorite local pizza joint to the rest of us, we won’t complain. While you’re at it, let us know what you especially enjoy eating there.
Happy hunting!

Not my first choice … which was 10Pizza in Falls Church that features “NY style” thin-crust which I raised on growing up in JRZ … but this was more convenient as I was wrapping up my ride and had cold feet, so I didn’t stop to try their pizza!

I took 3 pictures of 3 different pizza places…. Accordioneur posted one of them, so not bothering with the Italian store. I’ve never been to wild tomato in Glen echo and Beth said it was good but she didn’t sound excited…. So ima go with Lost Dog, which is an awesome place in so many ways.:
1) They have great beer, especially if you like ipa (Ok I don’t actually know about any of the other kinds because every time I waste my 1 possible beer/day* on a non ipa I regret it) and especially if my favorite bartender Connor is there. I mean I can just ask him what I want and he gets me a winner every time!
2) They actually are connected to a dog shelter…. And they let dogs into the store! (Idk about the restaurant – the store is first,)
3) their pickles are omg awesome
I haven’t actually tried their pizza, but my husband says it’s good, definitely better than the Italian store’s, which doesn’t surprise me because everything I’ve ever eaten at lost dog has been great.
They do have gluten free options – but the thing is I’m both gluten sensitive* and pretty severely lactose intolerant, so honestly the best pizza for ME is at my house. You got me interested in making some today! It takes a few hours though, so I might hafta wait for a sleaze ride day…..
I make the crust with mostly ground buckwheat & oats, & use 6+ month aged cheddar and maybe some swiss cheese on top. The lactose is all digested in aged cheeses (which taste the best anyhow. [emoji16]) My father used to make pizza – with whole wheat crust and mozzarella cheese. I realized only after I started making my own that I make it EXACTLY in the image of the pizza he used to make. Which makes me happy. Too bad he’s not here to try it. Maybe he knows [emoji848][emoji1744]
[*I can do 1 pc of bread or 1 beer/day – and come on, which would you do? [emoji848][emoji38] Especially at a place with great [emoji482] and a great bartender.]
So without further ado…. I give you the Lost Dog café /pizza deli

Today I went to the converted Pizza Hut in our Reston treasure McTacoHut. Right off the trail at Wiehle Road. While still settling on a name McTacoPup?, I enjoyed a ham & mushroom neopolitan pie. Now I was going to eat half and save half as I am an Affectionato of leftover pizza but it was a beautiful day, the sun was warm, the box was too big for the backpack and more excuses than I can remember, so I left two crust. It was very good. You could even metro to Reston get your miles and finish with a pie. Come on out, I’ll meet you, masked of course.

Not sure you were saying Pupatella was your favorite pizza place, but that is my number one to go.

Here’s me and a pizza, the Haymaker (inside the box), from 20th St. Pizza!
[ATTACH=CONFIG]23888[/ATTACH]
I’d never actually been here before, so I can’t really call it a favorite, but it was really tasty! It had some BIG bubbles in the crust. Technically, this mural is on the side of the building (not the storefront), but I’d argue the painted slice in the background should count as “a slice”, or alternatively the pie in the box should count. If you want to see the pizza itself, here it is.
I’d like to communicate my disappointment in the rest of you all for not actually getting pizzas, and just taking photos of buildings. That’s no fun. Also, I bought a pizza rack a couple weeks ago, but I can’t fit it and my front brake on at the same time (and I don’t have a long enough bolt that’s not part of the front brake), so I was reduced to riding home with one hand while carrying the pizza in the other (but with a safety escort/photographer/pizza-eater). One day I’ll get it properly rigged up and I’ll be able to carry pizza in style.
