I thought I knew exactly where to go for this one. Satsuma is my favorite sushi restaurant, although since the pandemic I’ve been getting it only by delivery. Numerous online photos showed it having a big sign above the door saying, “Satsuma Japanese Restaurant.” And unlike several of my other destinations in this scavenger hunt, I knew for a fact that it was still open.

So I went there. And what is above the door now says just “Satsuma.” I can even see where the letters that said “Japanese Restaurant” were attached. But the letters themselves are gone.

Fortunately, it turned out Hinata Carryout was only a few blocks away. And while there was no “Japanese” in the name, it does have a sign for its Japanese groceries.

2/8/2021 — the word “Japanese.” My experience was similar to cvcalhoun’s: I decided to bike to Japanese Auto City, and I even checked Google Streetview to make sure the sign was easily visible from the street. But when I got there, the sign had been taken down, even though you could still see where the letters used to be. So here’s my bike at a nearby Japanese restaurant instead:
