Nah. I love freezing saddles and I love the friends and connections I made because of it, but I’m too competitive to enjoy it normally (aka I’m a crybaby infant who hates to lose).
Use your competitiveness to best advantage then, rather than as a soul-sucking defect. Set your own goal, like 16th place, and then knock yourself silly to come in exactly 16th. Or if we adopt the proposed scoring system, try to score the most points by riding with the most other players. Believe it or not, you are in control of your own brain.

Judd’s FS daily mile avg last year was 39. If Judd ensures the team he is on is not in 1st place, we could make that the maximum avg mileage allowable for points (points not earned when exceeded, or even better just to the team in general and not associated to any rider).
I propose allowing some other team to win if I get to be the individual winner.

ParticipantAh, I’ve been so busy at work I haven’t been on the forum in eons, but it’s nice to see that the perennial donnybrook that is Freezing Saddles rules, scoring, and such is alive and well.
I can appreciate all sides of these spirited discussions. My personal opinion is we are a victim of our own success. Many of us went “outside” the cocoon of the forum in search of new players for our reindeer games, but in so doing, we were not always (and dare I say mostly were not), fostering the influx of new, engaged, bike-centric, beer-guzzling, coffee-clubbing rah-rah bikers, but rather we were just bringing in some random people who were mildly intrigued by our description of this “crazy game we play in the snow and ice on our bicycles.” At its heart, I believe BAFS is a game of the forum, by the forum, for the enjoyment of the members of the forum. However, through our great proselytizing efforts (of which I myself am guilty), we created this “too big to fail” monstrosity that now we’re all fighting over how to bring it back to its former glory.
I for one really love Freezing Saddles because it is where I challenged myself to get out and ride all the time and in some less than stellar conditions. I would not be the rider I am today (or at least was before I got too damned busy at work to ride much anymore) if not for BAFS. And except for missing the first day of my first BAFS (BAFS #2), I’ve ridden every day of every one. It’s been my “reset” button on my lackluster biking these past two years and again I hope that it motivates me to get back in the saddle and hopefully start to turn around my biking and get out there more.
I would hate to see this turn into an all-out competitive fest with arbitrary rules for kicking people out and the like. Let’s get back to the basics, keep it within the forum (i.e., stop going out to get people to “sign up and let’s play”), and enjoy the great camaraderie and rivalry that the forum is known for.
Just my two cents from a “has-been cyclist” looking to repent and reform.

So all I need is an appropriate title.
And maybe a little forum consensus on your appointment….

Did you say “forum consensus”? Aside from “puppies and bikes are good”, there has never ever been any forum consensus on anything.

Go ahead. Let Steve O be solely in charge of anything. See how you like it.

ParticipantI was told that I needed to join the forum, in order to play. So I created an account, confirmed my account, posted up here… but still need to figure out the strava thing and the million other rules.
I did go on a few rides last year and went to a few happy hours, so I think I can figure it out and am ready to freeze! But I will definitely need some support. 😮
(There are already 13 pages of posts, just for FS and it hasn’t even started yet? Sorry I didn’t read through them, so if I’m violating any rules, please give me a pass! — I’m sure drevil will give the the cliffnotes version.)

ParticipantThe cliffnotes version is just go ride your bike, especially when it’s super cold and s****y out. If you can do it with other crazy people from the forum, so much the better.

Welcome. It’s more like guidelines than rules most of the time…

Cold and snowy. He means cold and snowy. In case you’re wondering. Maybe slushy…but probably snowy. Probably not sleety, though I suppose that’s possible, too.

There’s not even really consensus on “bikes are good” these days.
